Getting Started with the Renaissance Responders
2Know Toolbar (for “on the fly”)
1. Make sure you have the Renaissance Learning software installed on your
computer. There are two parts to it:
a. Accel Test &
b. 2Know! Toolbar
If not you can turn in a work order or install it from the LANDesk Software
Deployment Portal (see separate direction sheet).
2. You can check out the responders from the library.
3. The 2Know! Toolbar requires the least preparation. You begin by
plugging in the receiver to your computer with the USB cord.
4. Open up the 2Know! Toolbar on your computer, connected to an LCD projector.
Start > Programs > 2Know! Toolbar
5. Give each student a responder and have them turn them on. (bottom center)
a. Screen will prompt students to Join Session (press Select or Enter)
b. Name of receiver will appear (press Select or Enter again)
See step 12 below if you would change the name on the receiver
from Renaissance Receiver to yourname Receiver.
c. Screen should say Enter your Response
6. Select the type of question you wish to ask by clicking the appropriate button on
the toolbar. T/F for true/false A , ABC for multiple-choice B , or 123 for
numeric response C or Short Answer D
Note: If math facts in a flash is
enabled on your responders you may
not see the short answer option.

7. In the middle of the 2Know! toolbar it will show the percentage of students who
have responded and how many students are connected.
8. Push the
button to see the student responses.
9. After pushing the GRAPH or the STOP button on the 2Know! Toolbar you can ask
another question. All students do not have to respond to proceed.
10. On the 2Know toolbar, if you click the
button and then Themes… you
can change the size and color of the toolbar and add the short answer response
option.
11. To assign one of the responders as a teacher responder (so it works like a
remote control for the 2Know toolbar)
a. Click Options on the 2Know toolbar and choose Teacher Responder.
b. If the program tells you that you haven’t assigned a Responder to the
teacher, click Assign.
c. Start the responder enter the PIN the toolbar program shows you, and
press Enter.
d. The responder will list your options.
12. To name your responder go to
a. start > All Programs > Renaissance Wireless Server > Renaissance
Wireless Server Utility.
b. Enter the admin password (get from your Instructional Technologist).
c. Click on the Server Settings tab.
d. In the Network Name box enter the name you want to appear and click
on
This might be helpful if more than one teacher is using the responders in
a close proximity and you want to verify that students log on to the
correct receiver.
