How to Clean Refrigerator Coils with Amy of amyworks, inc.
Intro
Amy: Hi, I'm Amy of amyworks and today I'm going to talk to you about cleaning your refrigerator coils. This
is a task that should be done about every 6 months. The tools that you'll need are just a coil brush, that you
can buy at your local hardware store, and a shop vac. (or a caucus with crevice attachment). It'll take you
less than 30 minutes to do, especially after you've done it once or twice you'll know how to do it and it'll be
really easy.
The refrigerator coils actually help the refrigerator cool and if there's too much dirt and dust on the coils it
makes it (the refrigerator) work too hard, and eventually the refrigerator will die a shortened life. So we want
to take care of those refrigerator coils and make sure we get the most out of our refrigerator.
InfoScreens: Find the Coils:
Bottom of the fridge. Unclamp the kickplate and wash that with soap and water, set aside & get on the floor
or…
Your coiled may be behind the fridge…CAREFULLY! pull the whole fridge out to clean. *Coils behind the
fridge? Clean them just once each year.
- Don't forget to unplug the fridge first! Amy: They are located underneath here and you can see that they're all covered with dust, and it's like a
blanket on there that keeps them hot. So you want to get that blanket off. So you'll take a brush that's made,
and you can gently clean all these coils, clean the dust off, and then you'll take the shop vac and suck all the
dirt and that dust up.
And there's no telling what other kind of things you'll find there (while brushing). You'll get a lot of dust and
dirt…outta there.
Off camera voice: Ooooh!
InfoScreen: Got a furry friend in the house? Cleaning coils is ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT for you!

Amy: It's much more important because that hair gets collected on those coils and the airflow goes through
the front of it (the refrigerator), and up around the back so it actually sucks the dirt and dust from the front of
the refrigerator.
InfoScreen: Keep Going…You're Doing Great!
…gently between the coils…as far back as you can….GENTLY!
Amy: So you just work and you get it as best as you can…and it doesn't have to be pristine, but you do want
to get the majority of the dust and dirt that you can off the coils...
InfoScreen: Is all this worth the $20 brush set, plus the time and energy?
Amy: Considering the cost of a new refrigerator, it's well worth it.
Off camera voice: (laughter)
Info Screen: PLUS! You get a PRIZE!
(Amy pulls brush out to show it's just filthy with dust and dirt from the coils)
Off camera voice: That's a beauty….
Amy: There, that's a prize…
Off camera voice: Yeah!
