overs is required, any recalculation must not cause the match to finish earlier than the
scheduled cessation time.
(g) If playing time is lost before or during the innings of the team batting first:
(i)
the number of overs in the innings of both teams shall be reduced subject to the
amount of available playing time, and
(ii) a fixed time will be specified for the completion of that innings as determined by the
recalculation of the overs to be bowled, and
(iii) the field restrictions for each innings shall be reduced in proportion to overs lost
(see 16(b)).
(h) If playing time is lost during the innings of the team batting second:
(i)
the overs to be bowled shall be reduced at a rate of four minutes per over, in the
remaining time available for play, and
(ii) the field restrictions for the innings of the team batting second shall apply in the
same proportion as those for the innings of the team batting first (see 16(b)).
(i)
16
Fractions are to be ignored in all calculations of overs.
FIELDING RESTRICTIONS

(i)
there may not be more than five fielders on the leg side, and
(ii) only two fielders are permitted to be outside the fielding restriction area for the first
6 overs of each innings, and
(iii) only five fielders are permitted to be outside the fielding restriction area for the
remaining overs.
(b) In circumstances when the number of overs for an innings is reduced, the fielding
restriction shall be reduced proportionally in a ratio of 6:20 (30%) in accordance with the
table below. Fractions are to be ignored in all calculations.

MAXIMUM OVERS PER BOWLER
(a) No bowler shall bowl more than four (4) overs in an innings.
(b) In a delayed or interrupted match where the overs are reduced for both teams or for the
team bowling second, no bowler may bowl more than one-fifth of the total overs
allowed, unless such a number has been exceeded before the interruption. This rule shall
not exclude a bowler from completing an over already started prior to an interruption.
If the total overs are not divisible by five, one additional over shall be allowed to the
maximum number per bowler necessary to make up the balance.
(c) In the event of a bowler breaking down and being unable to complete an over, the
remaining balls will be bowled by another bowler. Such part of an over will count as a full
over in so far as each bowler's limit is concerned.
18
FAST SHORT PITCHED BOWLING
(a) A bowler is permitted to bowl one fast short pitched delivery per over. A fast short
pitched delivery is defined as a ball which, after pitching, passes or would have passed
above shoulder height of the striker standing upright in his normal guard position at the
popping crease but not clearly above his head.
(b) The umpire at the bowlers end shall advise the bowler and the batsman on strike when
one fast short pitched delivery has been bowled.
(c) For the avoidance of doubt, any fast short pitched delivery which, after pitching, passes
or would have passed over head height of the striker standing upright at the popping
crease, which is called No Ball under Law 42.6(a)(ii), shall count as one of the allowable
deliveries in (a) above.
(d) In the event of a bowler bowling more than one fast short pitched delivery in an over as
defined in (a) above, the umpire at the bowlers end shall call and signal No ball on each
occasion.
19
FREE HIT AFTER A NO BALL
(a) The delivery following any No Ball shall be a free hit for whichever batsman is facing it. If
the delivery for the free hit is not a legitimate delivery (any kind of No ball or Wide), then
the next delivery will become a free hit for whichever batsman is facing it.
Page 14
2016-17 Rules & Playing Conditions
Bonnor Cup
(b) For any free hit:
(i)
the striker can be dismissed only under the circumstances that apply for a No Ball
even if the delivery for the free hit is called Wide, and
(ii) changes to fielding positions are only permitted if a different batsman is on strike for
the free hit delivery.
(c) The bowlers end umpire shall signal a free hit by (after the normal No ball signal)
extending one arm straight upwards and moving it in a circular motion.
20
WIDE BALL – JUDGING A WIDE
The umpire should apply a very strict and consistent interpretation of Law 25 (Wide ball) in
order to prevent negative bowling wide of the wicket.
Any delivery which, in the opinion of the Umpire, does not give the batsman a reasonable
opportunity to score shall be called a wide.
A delivery passing the striker on the leg side on a line 190mm outside the leg stump (the
Protected Area mark), without any contact with the striker's bat or person shall be a Wide
unless the ball passes between the striker and the stumps.
A delivery passing the striker on the off side, more than 75cm wide of the off stump shall be
called a Wide.
21
TIMED OUT
In Twenty20 matches, Law 31.1 (Out Timed Out) shall apply except that the incoming
batsman must be in position to take guard or for his partner to be ready to receive the next
ball within 1 minute 30 seconds of the fall of the previous wicket.
The incoming batsman is expected to be ready to make his way to the wicket immediately a
wicket falls.
22
DECLARATION
Law 14 (Declaration and Forfeiture) shall not apply to Twenty20 matches. The Captain of the
batting team may not declare his innings closed at any time during the course of a match.
23
TIME WASTING – DELIBERATE ACTION
Umpires should fully take into account any deliberate slowing down of the tempo by either
batsmen or fieldsmen, where it may be seen to be the disadvantage of the opposing team,
e.g. in the case of a team fielding second slowing down the match, knowing it might win a
shortened match on run rate.
24
SLOW OVER RATES
(a) In any match, if the required number of overs has not been bowled by the scheduled or
rescheduled time for stumps, play shall continue until the required number of overs has
been bowled.
Page 15
2016-17 Rules & Playing Conditions
Bonnor Cup
(b) In any match where slow over rates are the sole reason for that match finishing 10
minutes or more after the scheduled time for stumps, the umpires shall provide a written
report to the Association.
(c) Such reports must detail the start and finish times of each innings and shall be submitted
to the Secretary of the Association within 48 hours of the completion of that day’s play.
The Association may, following its investigation into the circumstances, take action
against either or both teams, including deduction of competition points.
25
LAST HOUR OF MATCH
Law 16.6, 16.7 and 16.8 (last hour of match) shall not apply to ODCA competitions.
26
THE RESULT
26.1
Determination of Winner
(a) A result can be achieved only if both teams have had the opportunity of batting for at
least 5 overs, subject to the provisions of clause 15, unless one or both teams has been
dismissed in less than 5 overs, or unless the team batting second scores enough runs to
win in less than 5 overs.
(b) All matches in which both teams have not had an opportunity of batting for a minimum
of 5 overs shall be declared ‘No Result’.
(c) In matches where both teams have had the opportunity of batting for the agreed
number of overs (i.e. the maximum allotted overs each in an uninterrupted match, or a
lesser number of overs in an interrupted match), the team scoring the higher number of
runs shall be the winner. If the scores are equal, the result shall be a tie.
(d) If for any reason, the team batting second has not had the opportunity to receive the
agreed number of overs, the winner shall be determined by assessing whether or not a
target score is achieved. The target score is determined by using the Run Rate Method.
(e) A team’s run rate shall be calculated by dividing the total runs scored by the total
number of balls received. The team with the highest run rate shall be declared the
winner.
In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of
its run rate is based on the full quota of overs to which they would have been entitled
and not on the number of overs in which they were dismissed.
26.2
No further play after achieving a result
Teams are to note that in accordance with Law 21.6 once a result is reached (i.e. when the
team batting second passes the target score, or is dismissed or it receives its maximum
number of overs) the match is at an end.
26.3
No Result
(a) A match shall be a ‘No Result’ if both teams have not had the opportunity to bat for a
minimum 5 overs because:
(i)
the innings of the team batting first could not commence by 50 minutes before the
scheduled finishing time (in this instance, also note the requirements of Rule 5.2
(Rescheduling of Matches);
Page 16

(ii) the innings of the team batting second could not commence by 20 minutes before
the scheduled finishing time; or
(iii) the innings of the team batting second would be reduced to less than 5 overs, as a
result of an interruption to play after its’ commencement.

FINALS SERIES
28.1
Team Qualification
(a) The two highest placed teams in each pool will qualify for the Final.
(b) Placings will be determined by the highest number of points at the end of the
competition rounds. In the event of teams having an equal number of competition
points, placings will be determined by the highest Net Run Rate.
(c) The first placed team in each pool plays the second placed team in the other pool. The
winner of each Semi Final will qualify for the Final.
28.2
Net Run Rate
(a) A team’s net run rate is calculated by deducting from the average runs per over scored
by that team throughout the competition, the average runs per over scored against that
team throughout the competition. That is:
Net Run Rate = Team run rate per over – opposing team run rate per over
(b) In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of
its team run rate is based on the full quota of overs to which they would have been
entitled and not on the number of overs in which they were dismissed.
28.3
No Result in Finals Matches
(a) If ‘No Result’ is achieved in a Semi Final match, the highest placed team shall be declared
the winner.
(b) If ‘No Result’ is achieved in the Final, both teams shall be declared joint winners.
Note: Any scheduled match that is abandoned without a ball being bowled shall be
rescheduled in accordance with Rule 5.2 (Rescheduling of Matches).
28.4
Tie in A Finals Match
If a finals match is a tie, including by the run rate method then the teams shall contest a Super
Over i.e. a 1 over per side eliminator, subject to fitness of ground, weather and light.

28.5
Super Over - One1 Eliminator
(a) Subject to the fitness of ground, weather and light, the Super Over shall commence 5
minutes after the conclusion of the match, at the same ground and using the same pitch.
(b) The team batting second in the match will bat first in the Super Over.
(c) In both innings of the Super Over the fielding side shall choose which end to bowl from.
(d) Whilst neither team is required to nominate either batsmen or bowler prior to each
innings, once the opening batting pair enters the field of play they are not permitted to
be changed. Similarly, once the bowling team has determined which end they will bowl
from and the opening batsmen take their respective positions at each end, they are not
permitted to change ends.
(e) Only nominated players in the main match may participate in the Super Over.
(f) The same ball used at the end of each team’s innings in the match, or a similar ball if that
one is unsuitable for any reason, shall be used for its innings in the Super Over.
(g) Fielding restrictions shall be the same as for the last over in the match.
(h) Each team shall bat for one over unless all out earlier. The number of batsmen is not
restricted.
(i)
In the event of both teams having the same score in the Super Over, or that the Super
Over is unable to be completed due to fitness of ground, weather or light;
(i)
In a Semi Final, the highest placed team shall be declared the winner.
(ii) In the Final, both teams shall be declared joint winners.
28.6

(a) Only official ODCA scorebooks are to be used. The Association will supply such
scorebooks. Both scorebooks are to remain in the Scorers box at Wade Park, unless
directed otherwise by the Committee.
(b) Each team must provide their own scorer for the duration of the match. One scorer will
need to also keep the electronic scoreboard up to date.
(c) Scoring for all matches is to be in accordance with the ODCA’s ‘Guidelines for Scoring’. A
progressive total must be kept for the entire innings.
