ICD-10 CM Education for Long Term Care
Purpose: To provide participants with an understanding of what
ICD-10 CM is and how to appropriately assign codes in ICD-10
CM.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is for long-term care staff, including MDS
coordinators, medical records personnel, therapists, home health
nurses and others who currently assign and/or use ICD-9 codes.

2. Describe the structure of ICD-10 CM
3. Identify the coding conventions and guidelines for ICD-10

Speakers
Pam Scott, RHIT, CCS, Assistant Vice President, Coding
Compliance and Classification Consultant, AHIMA Approved
ICD-10 CM/PCS Trainer. Ms. Scott is the author of the First
Class Solutions ICD-10 bootcamp and ICD-10 Physician
Champion Prep course. Pam routinely leads and/or participates
in coding compliance reviews. To assist clients with their ICD-10
preparation, she has conducted DRG shift analyses. Additionally,
she is familiar with SNOMED.
She has served as a financial data manager, participated in quality
and performance improvement programs, and has expertise in all
types of inpatient and outpatient coding activities.
Pam also is experienced in tumor, myocardial infarction, and head
and spinal cord injury registries. Ms. Scott has experience with
alternative care facilities such as dialysis centers and long term
hospitals, has provided on-site and off-site one-on-one
training/oversight for new coders, and assists clients with
inpatient and outpatient coding support.
Ms. Scott obtained her RHIT in 1990, has coursework in
business, accounting, management training and nursing. She is a
member of AHIMA, MoHIMA, and EMoHIMA. She has
spoken on a variety of coding related topics.
Deanna Peterson, MHA, RHIA, CHPS, Assistant Vice
President of Health Information Services for First Class
Solutions, Inc. Deanna assists clients with documentation
compliance, medical records policies and procedures, EHR
implementation, legal health record definition, ICD-10
preparation and privacy issues. She has successfully implemented
electronic signature, initiated a Clinical Documentation
Improvement Program, participated in the selection process of
EHRs and organized the outsourcing of transcription for multihospital systems. She currently assists several organizations with
ICD-10 project management.
Deanna received her B.S. in Health Information Management and
M.H.A. from Saint Louis University. She is a member of the
Eastern Missouri, Missouri, and American Health Information
Management Associations and is currently serving on the Privacy
and Security Practice Council for AHIMA.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
For cancellations received in writing seven business days before
the day of the program, a full refund – minus a $25 processing fee
per registrant – will be granted. Cancellations made after this
date and nonattending registrants are responsible for the full
registration fee. Substitutions are encouraged. We reserve the
right to cancel this program because of insufficient registration.
