Start a Sisters 8 Book Club

Start a Sisters 8
Book Club
You obviously love the Sisters 8 books. Your friends probably do, too. So
why not talk about the Sisters 8 and hang out with your friends at the
same time by starting your own Sisters 8 Book Club? It’s easy.
How do I start?, you ask.
Well, first of all, just talk to your friends. Tell them your idea. Say something like, “Hey, I’m thinking of starting a book club to talk about the
Sisters 8. We could hang out and do cool stuff. Plus eat snacks.”
Ask around school. Ask friends from sports teams or drama club or art
class. You want to find a small group of friends who like to read. Once you
get a group together, talk to your parents about your plans. They might
have some great ideas for you, too.
When will we meet?
Try once a month for about an hour or so. How about the first Friday of every month from 3:30 to 4:30. If you meet right after school it will make it
easier to get together. Check with all the parents to see if that time works
for them. They’re the ones who have to drive!
Where should we meet?
Why not meet at someone’s house? Every meeting can be at a different
house. Make a schedule and email it to all the parents to make sure those
dates will work. Who knows, maybe your parents will want to get in on
the fun—if you let them. Most parents will want to at least help with the
snacks.
If that doesn’t work, think about meeting at your library. Or if it’s warm,
why not meet outside at your local park?
Who’s in charge?
Well, that’s up to your group. First, pick a leader. Maybe that’s you. Maybe
that’s your friend or your friend’s mom. Maybe you take turns being the
leader. That’s totally up to your group. The leader is someone who makes
sure you start and stop on time, and that person’s in charge of starting the
discussion about the book. Have a notebook that’s just for the club. Keep your schedule and a list of
discussion ideas in there. You can even keep a list of other ideas that come
up for future meetings. Put someone in charge of sending out an email
reminder the week before: “Book Club. Jade’s House. Friday at 3:30 pm.” What do we talk about?
The leader can help guide your group while you talk about the book. Here
are a few ideas:
• At your first meeting, it’s important to make everyone feel comfortable. Make sure everyone knows everyone else’s name. Play that name
game from camp. Or make one up!
• Go around the room and talk about your favorite parts of the book.
• Have everyone write down a question about the book. Ask each question to the group one at a time. • Maybe choose a favorite sister and explain why she’s a favorite.
• You could even have the group come up with a new adventure using
the Sisters’ powers, gifts, and cats!
• You can talk about any of the characters, the setting, the beginning,
the end, the middle, or whatever comes to mind. Just make sure it’s
about the book and not about the snack. What happens when we’re done talking?
Well, there’s plenty more your club can do.
You can take turns acting out your favorite scene. Here’s your chance to
take center stage! Or have everyone share what power and gift they would
like to have. Be sure to check out the “Get Crafty” page on the SistersEight.
com website for more fun things to do! Basically, you can do whatever you
want to—it’s your group. You promised snacks.
OK. Snacks. Have them. Lots of them. Well, not ridiculous amounts, but
it’s fun to have popcorn and grapes and pretzels and juice. Or whatever. It
makes talking about books that much more fun. It’s probably easier if the
person hosting that day’s meeting also provides the snacks.
Good luck and have fun!
