Share your story…
OMG is one of the world’s leading media communications companies and part of the
Omnicom Group which is the world’s leading advertising and marketing communications
services company. As a media communications agency, we help companies formulate their
advertising and media investment strategies. We provide media planning and media buying
services to clients across the world. A typical week would involve meeting client
requirements, liaising with team members both in office and abroad and dealing with
suppliers and vendors who continuously hope for business from you! All in all it is a
demanding job requiring varying levels of interpersonal skills, accurate analysis and
delivering timely solutions.
Parts of the marketing modules in IB do deal with marketing communications, although a
better understanding of media communications would be through a full-fledged marketing
course. Studying at Aston does set you up to deal with people across cultures and nations
which in a way does help when working at a global company.
The best thing about your current role is…
You get to work with some of the biggest brands in the world and put your two cents in
making them successful.
Most valuable skills…
Two things are most required – firstly, one needs to be good at numbers and analysis to
make a sound strategy and secondly, strong negotiation and inter-personal communication
skills as one deals with a variety of stakeholders.
My golden nugget of advice would be…
I would suggest taking things as they come as it is likely that you will be saddled with
multiple responsibilities. It is imperative to finish tasks at hand properly before hassling
about jobs lower down the order on the priority list.
