Elements of Style
Allusion: is a brief reference to a person, place, or event that enriches the meaning of what is
being read or heard. Ie. “King of Kings”, in the poem “Ozymandias” by Shelley, is an allusion to
the Christian God.
Symbol: something that stands for something else in order to help the audience understand the
meaning of what is presented.
Repetition: is used as and emphatic device which means to put emphasizes on something.
