Caused by Sporozoan (animal like protist)
Transmitted by mosquitoes
Usually in temperate and tropic areas
Symptoms : Chills, fever, sweating,
headache, vomiting, anemia
Symptoms appear 10 days to 4 weeks
after infection.
After symptoms appear they cycle every 2
to 6 days.

African Sleeping Sickness
Also known as African Trypanosomiasis
Caused by a Zoomastigophora
Transmitted by tsetse fly
Symptoms: swelling at site of fly bite,
fever, headache, sweating, drowsiness
during day and insomnia at night. Then
sleep becomes uncontrollable.
If untreated…fatal.
Amoeba Dysentery
Infection of intestine
Transmitted through food, drink, or
person-person contact
Usu. Found in tropical areas
Symptoms: Bloody slimy diarrhea,
ulceration (a hole) and bleeding of
intestine, stomach cramps and fever.

Toxoplasmosis
Found in and transmitted by humans,
animals and birds…esp. cats through
bodily fluid, meat, or feces
Can cause birth defects in babies with
mothers that are infected.
Symptoms: tiredness, enlarged lymph
nodes

Also known as candidiasis
Can infect different parts of the body
– Mouth –white patches that come off when eating or
brushing
– Diaper rashrash- itchy, pink rash
– SkinSkin- Peeling skin on the hands, especially between
the fingers and swollen nail folds above the cuticle;
possibly painful, red and containing pus.
– Male and female reproductive systemssystems- severe itching
and pain
Yeast infection
Treat with anti-fungal medications
Prevent by keeping infected area dry and
away from moisture.
