At ARK John Keats we aim to give local

and Year 7, and we will also have
Year 1 places in September 2014. The
standard of education we provide is
a match for the best schools in the

Our first Reception pupils joined us
in September 2013 and our first year
has been a great success. Our parents
have seen the rapid progress made by
their children and are now our greatest
supporters. We are very excited about
our new pupils joining us in September.
We are an ARK School
We are part of ARK Schools, one of the
country’s most successful networks of
schools. Being part of ARK enables us
to work with some of the best schools
in the country and gives us access to
first class resources and expertise in
developing our own school.
“In the short time that my
daughter has been there,
she has learnt so much.
The whole experience –
she’s always explaining to
us what she is learning.
She is really flourishing in
your environment.”

COMMENTS FROM OUR LATEST
ARK SCHOOLS MONITORING VISIT
ARK JOHN KEATS’ PRINCIPLES
FOR A GREAT EDUCATION
1. More time for learning – pupils at ARK John Keats have, on average,
4 extra hours learning every week compared with other schools. All pupils
begin their day at 8:30am, with primary pupils, including Reception,
finishing at 4pm and secondary at 4:30pm (3pm on Wednesdays).
2. Depth before breadth – our first aim, in both the primary and
secondary phases, is to ensure pupils excel in English and maths as these
subjects provide the foundation for learning across the curriculum. From
Reception to year 11 pupils at ARK John Keats have significantly more
time for learning in these subjects to ensure mastery of the English
language and enhanced numeracy skills and knowledge. Pupils in both
phases also study science, history, geography, a modern language, art,
music, drama, technology and physical education. Reception children also
have child initiated learning and directed play as part of their curriculum.
3. Strong discipline – we believe pupils learn best in an environment
that is calm, respectful and focused on learning. We teach pupils good
discipline and how to conduct themselves well. Poor behaviour is not
tolerated and is dealt with quickly and effectively.

Like other ARK schools, we help pupils to develop different interests and passions
4. Character development – from Year 1 onwards pupils take part in
the CHARACTER programme. The aim of the programme is to ensure
pupils identify themselves as being Curious, Honest, Altruistic, Reflective,
Adaptable, Courageous, Tenacious, Empathetic and Responsible.
5. Knowing every child – ARK John Keats is a new school and one that
places great emphasis on ensuring we know every child well. We know
our pupils’ academic strengths and weaknesses and what we need to do
to help them improve. We also know them as individual personalities and
how they best learn and flourish.
6. Raising aspirations – we provide pupils, from Reception onwards, with
regular opportunities to learn about university, different careers and the
qualifications and characteristics needed to succeed in life.
7. Widening horizons – we want pupils to develop interests and passions
that will give them enjoyment throughout their lives. We provide a wide
array of extra-curricular activities to help develop these interests, from
sports to gardening, cooking, art, drama, entrepreneurship, philosophy
and more! We also have regular trips to places of educational interest.
