ROBERT H. WHITTAKER, HEAD COACH
Robert H. (Bob) Whittaker has entered his sixth year
as head football coach s.t Bowling Green (0.) State University,
His previous Falcon teams won 27 games, lost 12 and tied 3,
totaling 714 points to opponents 380.
Whittaker coached at Sandusky (0.) High School
11 years before going to Bowling Green in 1941.
His high
school squads won 87', lost 20 and tied 2, outscoring opponents
2625 to 639.
From 1932 to 1936 Sandusky won 38 consecutive games.
Five teams were undefeated*
At Miami University, from which he was graduated
in 1929, he was a halfback.
Paul Brown, the former Ohio State
coach now directing the Cleveland Browns, was a teammate.
Whittaker
threw the javelin to a college record and ran the dashes.
Born in Greenville, Ohio, 42 years ago, he is married and
lias two daughters, Jean, 15, and Joan, 13.. He is a member of
Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
His hobbies include sailboating, ( he won the
Intcr-lako Regatta at Put-In-Bay,c0hio in 1940) ice skating,
skiing and handball.

ASSISTANT COACHES
Head coach Robert H. Whittaker is aided by six
assistants in football at Bowling Groen (0.) State University this
season.
George Muellich is in his sixth season as Whittaker's
No. 1 assistant and line coach.
high schools for 11 years.
He previously coached in Toledo
Muellich was an all-conference
end at Michigan State Normal.
After four years in the Navy, Fred Marsh has
returned as Bowling Green "B" squad coach.
He was an all-conference
guard for two years as a Falcon player.
Charles Maag, a Whittakor-coachcd star at Sandusky (0.)
High School, is assistant lino coach.
Maag gained football
fane at Ohio State as a goal kicker and won All-Big Ten tackle
honors.
Bob V/hittakcr1 s youngest brother, Jin, who quarterbacked his IS36 Sandusky
team to an undefeated season, is assist-
ant backfieid coach.
In his third season as Falcon trainer, Allan Sawdy
is a former conditioner for Fostoria (0.) High School and the
Detroit Lions of the National Professional Football League
He
was a tackle and a tcannate of Muellich' s at Michigan Normal.
Ray Whittaker, equipment manager and another of the
Whittaker brothers, issued 206 suits during the first .practice
week for an all-time Bowling Green record.

PREVIOUS RESULTS WITH 1946 OPPONENTS
The longest gridiron
rivalry of the 1946 season
for Bowling Green (0.) State University will be the 15th meeting
with Kent State University.
Since they first not in 1920,
each team has won five games, lost five and tied four.
Kent
edges Bowling Green in scoring, 103 to 95.
w
hcn the Falcons open their season at Central
Michigan, it will be the seventh contest with the Mt. Pleasant
gridders.
Since winning the first game in 1924, the Chippewas
have lost the remaining five.
Bowling Green has scored 94 points
to 46.
Miami-Bowling Green rivalry started in 1941 when
Bob Whittakor (Miami * 29) became Falcon football coach.
Bowling
Groen won the first two games, but for the last three years the
Redskins have overpowered the Falcons to load in scoring 105
to 29.
In 1942 Bowling Groen played at Ball State and won 26 to
14.
This year the Falcons arc hosts.
The star-studded Marine-Kavy-Civilian 1943 Falcon
team swamped Xavior's teen-age civilians 40 to 0 in Cincinnati.
The Musketeers play at Bowling Groen this season.
Last year Oberlin's Ohio Conference championship
team smothered Bowling Green 28 to 0.
Their second clash will
be at Bowling Green's homecoming, Nov. 2.
Canisius and St. Bonaventure arc newcomers to

OTHER BOWLING GREET SPORTS
Bov/ling Green (0.) State University's basketball tean
played in the Invitational Tournanont at Fadison Square Garden
last spring for the third consecutive year.
They lost to Rhode
Island 82 to 79.
The Falcons, coached by W. Harold Anderson (Otterbein '24)
and his capable assistant, George Muollich (Michigan Normal '31),
won 27 games and lost five.
They totaled 202? .points to opponents'
1340 for an average of 63.3 points a game.
The 1946 baseball team under Warren E. Stellcr
(Oborlin * 23) won nine and lost two to score 95 runs to
opponents'
