The Strengthening Families group is an enjoyable way for parents

The Strengthening Families group is an enjoyable way for parents and teens to learn valuable skills while
enhancing their family bonds. Through providing interactive activities and discussions, this program
encourages parents and teens to come together and practice the skills they have learned. The goal of
the program is to empower parents, strengthen family bonds and nurture teen’s social and emotional
development.
Each session begins with some family interaction that is sure to be entertaining. The families enjoy
dinner together while asking each other fun questions. The questions are designed to help families learn
about one another and encourage positive communication. To make this activity even more fun and
interactive, the families write out their questions on Popsicle Sticks and place them in a jar that they
decorate together.
Parents and teens then break out into separate groups. The parenting sessions educate parents on how
to positively interact with their teen, improve communication, problem solve, as well as establish
effective and consistent discipline. Parents also have the opportunity to connect and relate with other
parents that may be experiencing similar challenges.
Through fun activities and games, the teen group helps participants improve communication with
parents and peers, problem solve, manage anger and deal with peer pressure. Teens also have an
opportunity to earn rewards for their participation.
