he family which occupies this beautiful home bought it with the
intention of renovating the very tired existing kitchen, but had not
come across any ideas that inspired them. Then Sydney Kitchens' interior
designer Tracy Diks created a design and a total scheme for the new
kitchen that the owners loved.
They wanted an aesthetically pleasing yet practical kitchen that would
be physically and visually compatible with the feel of the rest of the
house. It was essential that the kitchen be integrated into the open-plan
living quarters of the home, a large area which also incorporated a
family room. This was achieved with the use of a generously sized island
bench. The elaborate timber work surface gives the family an ideal
informal eating area, along with plenty of preparation space. The island
is both decorative and functional, with drawers and cupboards
accessible from both sides.
The decorative mantle, with its intricate corbels, and the internally lit
glass display cabinets exquisitely frame the niche created for the freestanding stainless-steel oven. This feature, along with the hand-painted
and aged finish on the cabinetry, give the kitchen a detailed design that
exudes character and charm.
Stainless-steel fittings and appliances guarantee modern convenience
while many specialised features, such as the glass display cabinets,
ensure timeless appeal for this functional yet elaborate kitchen. ■
