Partners Program:
It’s that time again where we start looking
for volunteers to pair up with students from
the Blue Mountain Middle School. This
program is an intergenerational program
where 6th, 7th and 8th grade students develop a relationship with a senior from
Springvale.
It is a unique opportunity not only for the
student but also for the resident. It gives
you the opportunity to share your life experiences, talents and interests with someone
who is so impressionable.
Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday,
November 10th @2:00 pm. The group will
meet at the Blue Mountain Middle School.
Refreshments will be served. If this is
something that you might like to know
more about or to sign up we would love to
hear from you. Call: 737-6954

Douglas Williams-Springvale’s Senior Athlete
Many Springvale tenants like to reminisce about their high school athletic abilities.
But, how many can say that they are still participating in some way not as a senior in
high school (naturally), but as a senior citizen. Springvale resident Doug Williams
can-in fact, just this month he was inducted into his high school’s Sports Hall of
Fame in Middlesboro, KY. Long before Bo Jackson, Doug not only played football,
but basketball, baseball and track for the “Yellow Jackets”- earning outstanding
achievements in all. Doug earned a scholarship to Tennessee State, and then transferred to Cumberland College where he set the school record with 9.8 second 100
yard dash! Through college, Doug stayed close to friends with the same passion for
sports; and, with friends like Greg Page and Nat Northington, helped to break the
racial barriers of the time. (Doug was even interviewed earlier this year at the Barn
by CBS Sports on the subject for a special report titled Forward Progress-The Integration of SEC Football.)
Thanks for being a great sport Doug!
Enjoy Springvale’s New Dog Park!
Springvale is happy to provide a leash-free area for our “dog residents.”
We must, however, ask that all who plan to use it, kindly sign-off on the rules first. Please
call the Rental office for the form.
The park is located behind the parking area along Springvale Road between Buildings 30 and
8 (look for the black gate). Have fun!
Please remember to read the rules and requirements before you enter.
