Association of Fundraising Professionals
Greater Atlanta Chapter
The purpose of the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of
Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is to support development professionals
through continuing education, networking, and by proclaiming and upholding
a code of ethics in fundraising.
AFP members represent a broad array of nonprofit organizations and
fundraising consulting firms. Members are working for a stronger community
and better world through social services, education, healthcare services, the
arts and environmental organizations.
AFP members pledge to honor the Donor Bill of Rights, ten principals of
fundraising that seek to safeguard ethical conduct by all involved in seeking
charitable support for the work of nonprofits. The Donor Bill of Rights upholds:
• Transparency of governance by both staff and volunteer leadership
• Accuracy and reliability of financial reporting
• Fidelity to the organization’s mission in the use of gifts
• Professionalism in the conduct of the nonprofit’s leadership
• Dignity in the recognition of donors, including the right to donor anonymity

ADA LEE AND PETE CORRELL
Nominated by Emory University
Ada Lee and A. D. “Pete” Correll are one of Atlanta’s most dynamic couples. Excelling in business, philanthropy, and civic
leadership, they have left a wide mark on our community. As
Chairman and CEO of Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 13 years,
Pete Correll established himself as one of the Southeast’s top
business leaders. Under his direction, Georgia-Pacific was
recognized with the Catalyst Award for the recruitment and
advancement of women. Other honors and awards he has received include: Central Atlanta Progress Dan Sweat
Award; Georgia Trend Most Respected Business Leader; Salvation Army “Doing the Most Good” Community Service
Award; and with his wife Ada Lee, the Buckhead Rotary Club's Ross Johnson Humanitarian Award. Today, he serves
as Chairman of Atlanta Equity.
The survivor of a near-fatal heart attack, Mr. Correll has refocused his expertise and business acumen toward the
revitalization of Grady Memorial Hospital. Elected Chairman of the charity hospital’s new board earlier this year,
he is leading the effort to save and restore the 116-year-old institution and the region’s only 24-hour trauma center.
Other nonprofit boards he has served on include the UGA Terry College of Business, the Carter Center, the Nature
Conservancy, the Georgia Research Alliance, Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the University of Georgia Foundation,
Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Woodruff Arts Center, Emory University School of Medicine,
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Georgia Conservancy, and the Georgia Aquarium. He has also chaired the Zoo Atlanta’s
successful capital campaign in 1995 and the United Negro College Fund Atlanta Campaign.
Learning the value of volunteerism and giving back from an early age, Ada Lee Correll has poured her time and
talents into almost every meaningful cause in Atlanta. The daughter of a school teacher, she has directed much of
her efforts to improving opportunities for Georgia’s next generation of leaders, including the Boys & Girls Club of
Atlanta, the ARCS Foundation, the Young Audiences at Woodruff program, the Fox Theater, the Alliance Theater, the
Atlanta Symphony, UNICEF, Leadership Atlanta, the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation, and
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, among others. She is a 2005 member of the YWCA's Academy of
Women, and has received the Alexis de Tocqueville award from the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta Inc., where
her photo hangs in their community service gallery. She is also on the Board of Visitors of Emory, and is chairing the
Emory University School of Medicine Capital Campaign. Mrs. Correll has chaired multiple balls and gala events. The
Heart Ball she organized in Atlanta netted more than $1 million for the American Heart Association (AHA), a
national record-breaking amount. Beyond Atlanta, she has graciously given back to her hometown of Swainsboro,
Georgia, in the memory of her mother, with the dedication of the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center at East
Georgia College.
Numerous organizations have benefited from the talents, time and generosity of the Corrells. Uniting two organizations important to them, in 2006 they founded the Correll Center for Aquatic Animal Health at the Georgia Aquarium
with a $2.5 million gift, which offers University of Georgia students a unique opportunity for the practice and
research of aquatic veterinary medicine. Their $2.5 million gift to the Emory University School of Medicine funded
four new term professorships for five years. Mr. and Mrs. Correll have both experienced health issues, that have
been treated at Emory Hospital. They were the chairs of Gala celebrating Emory School of Medicine’s 150th
anniversary and have established endowed scholarships in honor of their mothers at Georgia Southern and the
University of Maine, as well as a Community Learning Center at East Georgia College in honor of Ada Lee’s mother,
and the Boys and Girls Teen Center in Brunswick named for Pete’s mother.
A native of Brunswick, Georgia, Pete received a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine, a M.S.
in Pulp and Paper Technology from the University of Maine, and a B.S. in Business Administration from the
University of Georgia. Ada Lee graduated with a degree in education from the University of Georgia, and is a former
teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Correll are long standing members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, have two children, Alston
Correll III, a law partner with McKenna Long & Aldridge, and Elizabeth Richards, a homemaker and community
volunteer. They have 5 grandchildren.

Teen Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients
First Place
Ms. Akanksha Sharma
Walton High School, Class of 2010
Akanksha Sharma, a senior at Walton High School, dedicates her time in school as drum major of Walton’s
marching band, secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Junior Civitan Club, a
member of the Student Government and a member of the Student Advisory Board for the Walton Leadership Team. Out of school she continues her volunteer activities working with the elderly at Sunrise
Assisted Living and helping with the Red Cross blood drive. Over the summers, Akanksha dedicates her
time as team director for the Walton Robotics Summer Camp for rising sixth through eighth graders,
helping them understand that robotics as well as math and science can be fun. Akanksha is also extremely
involved in her neighborhood. Besides the work she does to help with holiday festivals, her most
impressive involvement is through the neighborhood summer play she produces each summer. The
children write the lines, paint the sets, sing, act and dance, and she provides the motivation, the focus
and the direction. At the end of the summer, the neighborhood gathers on a neighbor’s lawn to watch
15 pre-teen children put on an entertaining hour-long play.
Second Place
Ms. Jordan R. Schwartz
Atlanta Girls’ School, Class of 2011
Jordan Schwartz, a junior at the Atlanta Girls’ School, founded The Children’s Bilingual Theater at age 10
with the mission to bridge the language and cultural gaps in the community through the theatre arts and
give a diverse group of young people the theatre experience while offering the benefits of confidence and
public speaking in a bilingual setting. Each production is selected not only for the bilingual aspect, but
to convey a positive message in a diverse setting. Jordan has produced 4 bilingual musicals and 4 storytelling and literacy events, led 200 volunteers and raised over $40,000. With help from local community
leaders, she made the company a non-profit corporation by achieving 501 (c)(3) status. A list of Jordan’s
other volunteer and extracurricular activities include Model Atlanta Regional Commission 2009-2010,
Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities Organizing Institute Fellow, Atlanta Girls’ School Year
Book Co-Editor 2008-2009, GALEO (Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials), 21st Century Leaders,
Do Something BRICK AWARD Alumni and Youth Advocacy Council, Youth Venture-Advisory Council,
Georgia Center for Non-Profits, United Arts of Cobb, Metropolitan Atlanta Arts and Cultural Coalition,

Ambassador and Model U.N.
Third Place
Mr. Christopher O’Connell
North Springs Charter High School, Class of 2009
Christopher O’Connell graduated from North Springs Charter High (NSCHS) School in May 2009. He is
currently a freshman at Dartmouth. At NSCHS, Chris earned an impressive 98 average as well as
recognition on the Principal’s List, Legion of Honor, Legion of Scholars and Super Honor Roll. He was
also a varsity oarsman, treasurer of the Student Government Executive Council, president of the Beta
Club and member of the National Honor Society and National Merit Honor Society. Chris was a HOBY
Ambassador, 21st Century Leadership Attendee, University of Michigan Book Award recipient and
National Hispanic Merit Finalist. In addition to academic and athletic excellence, Chris is an Eagle Scout
and community activist. As a member of the American Red Cross Atlanta Chapter, he led one of the
biggest summer drives in metro-Atlanta for 3 consecutive years, collecting over 175 pints of blood and
securing over 200 donors. Chris also founded and served as co-president of the North Springs’ Student
Leadership Association (SLA), which strives to unite 75+ clubs at NSCHS. The SLA provides grants to
clubs and school organizations, and serves as a liaison between student groups, the school administration
and the community. Last year, the SLA hosted the “Clubs in the Community” event in which over 1700
hours of service were performed by students, staff, parents and community members.

A special thanks to the Presenting Sponsor
The Kiwanis Club of Atlanta is the premier civic organization in Atlanta and
one of the largest Kiwanis Clubs in Kiwanis International. Founded in June 1918,
it’s one of the oldest Kiwanis Clubs in the United States and was the first Kiwanis
Club established in Georgia.
Every week at lunchtime, prominent speakers deliver compelling and interesting
programs of civic importance. Lifelong professional and personal relationships
grow among members, who are both long-time and emerging city and metro
leaders. We give primacy to life’s human and spiritual values, and offer numerous
opportunities for members to connect with and serve the community in
meaningful ways. In 2008 alone, over $240,000 in Kiwanis Foundation of Atlanta
grant funding was distributed among forty-five youth-orientated organizations
serving the children of metropolitan Atlanta.
