Guss, Principal February 24, 2012 Dear Parent/Guardian: During the 2008 legislative session, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1908. The law included revisions relating to common placement testing for students who wish to continue their education after high school (1) by expanding college and career readiness assessment of high school students indicating an interest in postsecondary education and (2) extending opportunities for remediation to high school seniors. The 2011 legislative session amended the Florida Statute requiring all 11th grade students to participate in the testing. Taking this test is now a graduation requirement. (Note: There is no required score to attain to graduate.) This letter serves as notification that your student will be taking the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) between 2/27/2012-‐3/30/2012. This is a computer-‐based test aimed at measuring your child’s college readiness. The test scores will impact which courses each student will need to take during the student’s 12th grade year. If your student doesn’t take the PERT Test and they don’t have a concordant score they will automatically be placed in the Math for College Readiness and/or the English 4 for College Readiness Courses. The following assessments and scores are the approved concordant scores: • SAT: Verbal, 440 – Mathematics, 440 • ACT: Reading, 18 – Mathematics, 19 -‐ English, 17 • CPT: Elementary Algebra, 72 – Reading, 83 – Sentence Skills, 83 Your student has an opportunity to take practice tests for math, reading and writing at any time online at https://college.measuredsuccess.com in order to become familiar with the software, item types, and online tools he/she will encounter and use during testing. There is a PERT Study Guide available at http://www.fldoe.org/schools/pdf/PERT-‐StudentStudyGuide.pdf, which we recommend as well. If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact your child’s guidance counselor at (352) 524-‐5700. For more information about P.E.R.T., visit the FDOE website at http://www.fldoe.org/schools/CommonPlacementTesting.asp. Thank you for supporting your student as he/she prepares for the test. Sincerely, Nancy Guss Believe, Achieve, Succeed Every Student, Every Minute, Every Period, Every Day
