The Early Years team are in the process of revamping our ‘Mud Kitchen’ in the Early Years garden. This is a fantastic area of our garden which enables the children to explore and engage in open ended, imaginative play. We are looking for a range of kitchen utensils, pots and pans that are no longer used at home that families would be willing to donate to our ‘kitchen’ for the children to use. An article which outlines the benefits of mud kitchens will be sent out with this newsletter for you to find out more about the idea. Thank you in advance for your support. Mrs Krstonosic, Attendance Manager Great redrafting of work in Reception This week in art we have all been working on redrafting our work. We wanted to share Oliver Kaszewski’s (Reception Elm) fantastic example of this with you. “Following on from our initial penguin drawings the children watched a video and looked at pictures of penguins. They decided how they could improve their original drawings after discussing it with their talk partners. During the class discussion Oliver remarked, “I missed the feathers on my penguin, and I need to make the toes a bit orange. The baby penguin needs some hair.” When Oliver sat at the table to draw up his next draft he studies some penguin pictures carefully. “They don’t have beaks and mouths, they just have beaks. I want to do lots of penguins, like a huddle. The baby penguin has feathers, it’s all fluffy.” Oliver drew a baby penguin, adding feathers. “The Emperor penguin has an egg.” He drew an egg near its feet. “I finished two of them but I need to improve more and do another one and then it will be a huddle.” Miss Thurmott, Elm class teacher Zumba club update Please note that from Monday 25th January, the Zumba clubs will be combining into one session for Years 1-6 which will run from 3.15-4.15 on Mondays.
