Fused Appliqué Wall Hanging

Materials
•Templates, provided
•Template plastic or cardboard
•Background, 1/2 yd.
•Border, 1/4 yd.
•Binding, 1/4 yd.
•Fusible web (I used Steam-ASeam .)

•Large scraps or fat eighths of fabric
for the scoops of ice cream and cone
Note: Have fun with your fabric
choices—pick the colors of your favorite
ice cream flavors and look for textured
fabric that might look like a waffle cone.
I nstructions
Cut the fabric
1. From the background fabric, cut 1
piece 101/2" x 241/2".
2. From the border fabric, cut 2 strips
21/2" x 42".
3. From the binding fabric, cut 2 strips
21/4" x 42".
Prepare the applique
1. Trace the templates onto template
plastic or cardboard and cut out.
2. Trace 3 scoops and 1 cone onto the
fusible web. Cut out each shape
about 1/4" away from the drawn line.
3. Place the shapes on the wrong
side of the fabric. Following the
manufacturer’s directions, fuse the
pieces onto the fabric. Let cool.
4. Cut out the shapes on the drawn
top scoop. Center the design before
fusing it in place using a hot iron.
Complete the project
1. Machine blanket stitch or zigzag the
raw edges of the scoops and cone.
Tip: Use monofilament thread over all of
the shapes or get fancy with coordinated
thread for each shape.
2. Square up the quilt top, if needed.
3. Measure the quilt top from top to
bottom and cut 2 pieces of border
fabric that length. Sew them to the
long sides. Press away from the
center. Measure side to side and cut
2 pieces of border fabric that length.
Sew them to the top and bottom.
Press away from the center.
4. Quilt and bind as desired and enjoy
your seasonal creation!
