FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pitching pennies to change lives: St. Anthony Foundation teams up with MoMo's & local celebrities for the 38th annual Penny Pitch Contact: Karl Robillard: (415) 722-‐4512 [email protected] Jessie Brierley (415) 416-‐2381 [email protected] San Francisco, June 3rd Where: MoMo's Restaurant across from AT&T Park When: Friday, June 5th. Ceremonial first pitch at 1pm What: Change is in the air and on the ground at MoMo's Restaurant as teams prepare for the 38th annual Penny Pitch to benefit St. Anthony's. Penny Pitch, a friendly wager that began in 1977 between the late Ed Moose of Moose's Tavern and other North Beach tavern owners has evolved into an annual fundraiser generating over $1 million for St. Anthony's. Who: Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-‐White and Police Chief Greg Suhr will toss the ceremonial first pitch. KNBR radio hosts Murph and Mac will MC the event as 34 teams (a record number) vie for the 2015 Penny Pitch trophy. About the event: In 2010, Penny Pitch moved from North Beach to MoMo's Restaurant across the street from AT&T Park, and has subsequently received strong support from the San Francisco Giants. Last year, the event raised just under $100,000 a record setting number that translates to nearly 200,000 hot meals in St. Anthony's Dining Room for homeless and low-‐income San Franciscans. Barry Stenger, St. Anthony's Executive Director remarked, "For 65 years, the business community has stepped up to the plate for St. Anthony's. We couldn't do the work we do without the steady support of people like Pete and Janet Osborne, the late Ed Moose, and everyone who makes this quintessential San Francisco event a success." Penny Pitch (picture bocce ball with pennies) runs much like the NCAA Final Four with teams of six competing in a single elimination bracket-‐style tournament. The winning team must win at least 5 games in a row to be crowned the 38th annual Penny Pitch champion. Proceeds from the event go directly to support San Francisco's most vulnerable residents. Since 1950, St. Anthony's has served hope and over 40 million hearty meals to San Franciscans living in poverty. The mission of St. Anthony Foundation is to feed, heal, shelter, clothe, lift the spirits of those in need, and create a society in which all persons flourish. #####
