New Projects & Renovations
Judging Criteria
Entries shall be evaluated individually, not in competition with each other. Each entry will be judged on the
basis of the materials submitted. If any submission is incomplete the jury may choose not to consider it. The
jury also reserves the right to move a submission to a more appropriate category.
New or Renovation Projects of the Year—Various Categories
New or renovation projects should respond to current market or economic conditions or accommodate a
new use or user. Each entry shall be judged for the success with which it has met individual project
requirements, including design and economic goals. Factors considered by the jurors will include the
project’s design concept, the degree of success to which a project relates to and contributes to the
community, and creativity in design and addressing problems and issues. The size of a project may affect
the category in which a particular entry is judged, but it in no way limits a project’s eligibility.
Green Building Award
Developments incorporating any "green" approaches including: brownfield re-development, balanced cut
and fill, preservation of natural features, water efficiency, energy efficiency, and improved indoor air
quality will be considered. Please describe the measure(s) taken in quantitative terms wherever possible.
Awards
There is only one level of award in each category, but there may be multiple winners in each category. The
number of awards made is at the discretion of the jury. If none of the entries submitted in a category is of
suitable quality, the jury may decide not to give an award for that particular category.
Project awards will be made to both the developers/owners and the lead design firms responsible for
development of the winning projects. Duplicate awards may be ordered for other team members after the
Awards Celebration.
Important Dates
Monday, 01 February 2017—Latest Postmark Date for Letters of Intent and Entry Fee(s). Letters of Intent and
entry fee(s) shall be made payable and sent to: NAIOP Hawaii, PO Box 1601, Honolulu HI 96806.
