Message from Mr Porter :
We were delighted that around 85% of our parents attended the recent parents evening meetings. I know teachers value these
discussions with parents early in the academic year, when children are settling back into school and I hope parents find them
useful too, in terms of what their child/ren will be studying during the term and the expectations. I have often said, school and

parents need to work in partnership in order to jointly support children so they can aspire to reach the
highest
standards.
We continually strive to improve our communications with parents – and were disappointed to find that a large number of parents
are not accessing eschools. Teachers will be emailing parents direct with general reminders, but it is important that parents check
the weekly class pages on eschools so they can see what their child has been learning and what is required for the following week.
Warminster poppies 2016: The Avenue Primary School was proud to be involved in making some of the 17,000 poppies that
have been displayed so beautifully around Warminster. Our older pupils walked around town to see the tributes for themselves,
including the memorial garden, the cascade from the Chapel of St Lawrence, the tribute to the animals awarded the Dickin medal
for gallantry (using the PDSA poppy colours) and the poppies on lamp posts, bus shelters and benches. What an amazing tribute.
Safeguarding: As part of a safeguarding review, we have become
aware that a large number of adults are entering the school
buildings and accessing classrooms via the corridors at the start
and end of each school day.
The school must not be used as a short cut in order to enter
Safeguarding:
classrooms. Please can all parents walk round and enter via the
school gates – which open at 8.30am and do not close until 9am.
The School Office does not open until 8.45am and therefore, from
Monday 28th November, the main doors into reception will be
closed between 8am and 8.45am. If parents need to speak to
someone in the office, they can pop back after their child has gone
into class. Again, parents will not be permitted to use the corridors
as a short cut to get back to the office. The glass window in the
corridor is for pupils not parents. Thank you.
Awesome Animals: some pretty cool animals from Longleat
came to visit us recently, in order to kick start KS1’s new topic of
“Awesome Animals”. Children were able to see & hold all sorts of
lovely things, not least the Madagascan Hissing Cockroach!
Nursery Remembrance Tribute: Our Nursery children
helped collect red and black items and also made their
own tribute – a giant red and black poppy.
Thanks to some more Lottery Funding, The Avenue Primary School were able to make more improvements to their soft play area.
We now have a “traversing wall” (pictured above) and some large tyre stepping stones, along with a wobbly bridge! As you can
see, the children love the new additions!
Reading: The following children were our winners of the reading prizes for Term 1, after their names were pulled out of the special
“Reading Box. Daniel Ablett, Daiana Leleavono, Emily Bateman, Callum Browne and Caoimhe Tully.
Drama: Well done to UK Class who were awarded Class of the term for Drama, by Mr Rees
the drama teacher. He said, “UK class delivered back to back outstanding lessons,
demonstrating superb levels of enthusiasm and creating fantastic characters. They worked
very well together to recreate scenes from films and from their imagination”. Congratulations!
House Points : Congratulations to the following children for achieving the following
awards: GOLD: Lily Mae Pinnell, Alexis Firth, Gabriel Jackson, Lexi-Mai Gear,
Cain Cooper, SILVER: Daniel Ablett, Miriama Macaca, Cleo Wright, Tamara Bevu,

and we raised £260 for this worthwhile cause.
