Coupé/Décalé ! A dialogue between film, dance and anthropology Présentation Autumn 2016: “The body and the camera at play in rituals of trance and possession” “Dance allows signs and symbols to be seen. When people dance, they are organizing, attaining, experiencing, communicating or representing knowledge and belief.” Drid Williams Dance can be approached in a variety of ways, as a physical practice or as an artistic, social, ritual or festive performance. For this next cycle entitled “Coupé Décalé”, we are proposing a further exploration of the theme of trance and possession. Over the course of three evenings, the work of various artists and video-makers will be presented in dialogue, along with the reflections of researchers in the fields of anthropology and visual anthropology. About The “Coupé Décalé” project is the brainchild of three young women: dancer Maité Jeannolin, cinematographer Charlotte Marchal and anthropologist Justine François. This initiative is driven by a desire to create a resonance between several disciplines: anthropology, dance, performance and film. At these events and seminars we will be presenting the work of video makers and directors that places a particular emphasis on dancing bodies, gestures and movements, creating a dialogue with the work of researchers in the fields of anthropology and sociology. “Coupé Décalé” is a platform for an encounter between local up-and-coming arts scenes and a number of more established artists.
