JOSEPH ALTAR In the first reading, Isaiah urges us in the name of the Lord to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and clothe the naked. If we do so, he assures us, the Lord will hear and answer our cries for help in time of need. The Sanctuary Candle will burn this week in memory of Alex Clemente from Sil Danowski & Family. The Candle will burn this week in Thanksgiving and Prayers from a Parishioner. MARRIAGE MOMENTS Overlook a little, love a lot. To motivate yourself, you need to let go of the trivial. Ponder for one minute the possibility that your spouse might die next week. We can never be certain about the future. SECOND COLLECTION Thank you to everyone who donated to the second collection last weekend for the Msgr. Connelly Education Endowment Fund. The total collected was $1,333; this fund is a gift that lives on for future generations. THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE As children we sang the lively song This Little Light of Mine. The words, of course, are based on today’s Gospel, in which we are called as disciples to be salt and light for the world. Children are uninhibited about sharing their faith. It’s only when we grow older that we prefer to hide our light under a bushel basket because our culture tends not to emphasize discipleship. The message in this week’s readings is clear: in order to give glory to God through our discipleship, we must show the light of Christ in our words and deeds. Not an easy thing for inhibited adults. Often we may think of salt and light in terms of what we do for others, but it can be just as important not to do something, such as getting angry with the stranger on the road, or telling an offensive joke. Question for Adults: What specific effor ts do you take to maintain your light? Do you let your light dim? Why? We thank them for being true stewards of God’s Kingdom through sharing and service by using their Church envelopes. “I let my sister use my face wash, helping my brother, I spent more time with my family, unloaded the dishwasher, helping my parents with laundry, cleaning my room, I said sorry to my sister, I helped my papa.” Please encourage your child (ren) to write on their envelopes ways in which they shared their time and talent during the week. It is uplifting to read what they share...we can all learn something from them!
