The easy way
to leasing the car
of your choice
With the Motability Scheme you can simply exchange
all, or part of your mobility allowance, to lease a brand
new car from a huge choice of latest makes and models.
Today over 600,000 customers up and down the country
enjoy the options and independence the Scheme brings.
Every lease is all-inclusive,
which means everything listed
on the left is in with the price
you pay. So the only running
cost you have for your brand
new car is fuel.
Our standard lease is over
three years and payments
are simply deducted from
your mobility allowance every
four weeks and paid directly
to us by the Department for
Work and Pensions (DWP).
Who we are
We are Motability Operations
Ltd, a company authorised
and regulated by the Financial
Conduct Authority. All Motability
Scheme vehicles are leased
to customers by us.
At the end of your lease you
have the option to simply hand
your car back, or if like most
customers you choose to stay
with us, you can just pick a new
car and take out another lease.

Right car, right choices
You choose the car and how
much you want to spend,
whether that’s less than your
allowance, the same as your
allowance, or a car that costs
the same plus an Advance
Payment. Then it’s up to you
who drives, and it doesn’t
have to be you. Also, if an
adaptation could help, lots of
our most popular choices can
be fitted at no extra cost at
the start of your lease.
You choose who drives
You don’t have to drive to lease a car through
the Scheme. Many of our customers don’t drive.
That’s why the insurance with your lease is for
up to two named drivers. So your car could be
driven by a family member, friend or carer, it
doesn’t have to be you.
As with most car insurance, there are
some restrictions in terms of convictions,
endorsements and drivers aged under 25.
For more information about who can drive
your car, go to motability.co.uk/drivers.
11
Could adaptations
help your driving
experience?
Adaptations could make travelling
easier. We offer options to help with
driving, accessing your car, or storing
a wheelchair. Many are available at no
extra cost if fitted at the start of your
lease and in most cases are fitted so
that your named drivers can continue
to use the standard controls.
It’s not just cars you can
lease on the Scheme
As well as new cars you can also lease
a wide range of wheelchair accessible
vehicles, scooters and powered
wheelchairs through the Motability
Scheme, with the same all-inclusive
package you get with a car.
You can request brochures
and find out more about small,
medium and large scooter models
and powered wheelchairs at
motability.co.uk/scooters and for
wheelchair accessible vehicles visit
motability.co.uk/wavs.
You can request a brochure and

and the type of help they provide at

It’s time to take
a test drive
Visiting dealerships means you get to see the cars up close, speak
to trained Motability Scheme specialists and importantly, you can
arrange test drives. You will be able to discuss all of your requirements
in detail and be given expert advice about good options for you.
Trade-in your
old car
Lots of Motability Scheme
dealers offer trade-in facilities
for your old car. This could help
finance the Advance Payment
or optional extras for
your new car.
13
At your chosen dealerships you’ll be able
to take test drives, which are by far the best
way to make sure that a particular model is
exactly what you want. If you don’t intend
to drive yourself, take a family member,
friend or carer, who’ll be able to take test
drives for you, when you visit.
With over 5,000 dealerships up and
down the country, there’s bound to be
one or more near you. Go to our online
‘find a dealer’ tool, choose your preferred
manufacturer, then just enter your town or
postcode to display a list of those close by.
Visit motability.co.uk/findadealer.
Alternatively, don’t hesitate to talk to us
now on 0800 093 1000 and we’ll gladly
guide you through the options, locate your
local dealerships and make arrangements
for you to visit.

Eligibility checkpoint
If you receive any of the allowances below, and have at least
12 months remaining on your award, you are eligible to apply to
join the Scheme. Or if you are the parent or guardian of a child aged
three or over, who receives the allowance, you qualify too.

A few simple rules
In general terms our rules focus on the car,
being used by, or for direct benefit of, the
disabled customer. Your dealer will talk
you through all you need to know as part
of your application, or you can find more
details at motability.co.uk/useofcar.

Important notes about
PIP reassessments
If you currently receive
Disability Living Allowance
(DLA) and are invited for
reassessment, as long as your
application for the Enhanced
Rate of the Mobility Component
of Personal Independence
Payment (PIP) is successful,
you will still be eligible to
apply to join the Scheme.
If the Department for Work and Pensions
(DWP) has already invited you to apply
for PIP reassessment, you will need to
wait for the outcome before considering
whether to join the Scheme.
If you become a customer, then lose your
allowance, we will offer you the chance
to buy the car, or you could return it with
no further payments to make. If that’s
the case, you may also be entitled to a
£250 Return to Dealer payment. For more
information, visit motability.co.uk/pip.
