Tatton Park
September—October 2015
Year 1 had a brilliant time visiting Tatton Mansion at Tatton
Park! We dressed up as Victorian children and were treated as
servants for the day. We scrubbed the floors, made beds and
made delicious scones! We all had a Victorian name and used
these to help us stay in character! Linked to our topic of Homes,
we had the opportunity to explore the Mansion which had been
home to 40 indoor servants, 24 gardeners and over 100 farming
and estate workers during the nineteenth century! We won’t
forget our experience, especially eating our
lunch in the cellars!
Water & Year 6!
Did you know that Year 6 loved water? I didn’t!
We had 6 huge boxes of books to donate to
Books 2 Africa so I asked Year 6 for ideas on
how we could raise the money to send these
books to Africa. Their number 1 choice was to
have the rest of the school throw WET sponges
at them! To their delight, Mr McDowell agreed.
So on a warm Friday afternoon a few weeks ago,
the whole school threw wet sponges at them.
THEY LOVED IT! We raised over £150. Well
done Year 6.
Poetry Recital at St Ann’s Hospice
Some of Year 4 were kindly invited to St Ann’s Hospice to read poetry
to day patients. We decided on the Environment as our theme as Green
Day is coming up soon in the school calendar. Children auditioned in
class for the opportunity to go and perform for real! We had a fantastic
time and even got juice and biscuits as a reward for our hard work!
Yusaf said, “We are famous now! There were posters advertising us
visiting up on the walls”!

geography and science skills in
Lyme Park. We looked at land use,
river systems, woodland and
moorland habitats. We practised
using compasses, reading maps and
working out grid references. Some of
