Life on Board Magellan
Introducing Magellan
A new name in contemporary, traditional cruising
The arrival in 2015 of sleek, contemporary Magellan heralded a new dawn in ex-UK, no-flying
cruising, and a welcome addition to the CMV fleet of traditional ocean-going cruise liners.
Sailing from her home port of the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury, Magellan brings a touch
of contemporary chic to the traditional welcome and friendly warmth that have been the
acknowledged hallmarks of the CMV cruise experience over many years.
Welcome Aboard!
At a little over 46,000 tonnes and over 200
metres in length, fully stabilised and airconditioned Magellan is larger than her ‘smallship’ fleet-mates, but thanks to the beautiful
layout of her public areas, the tasteful décor
and of course the presence of the friendly,
welcoming crew and CMV cruise staff, she
retains the sense of tradition and intimacy
of the line – and of course, with a passenger
complement of around 1,250, she is still
dwarfed by the cruising world’s ‘mega-vessels’,
which can arrive in port with as many as 6,000
folk aboard!
Originally built in 1985, and refitted at a cost
of $50 million as recently as 2010, Magellan
is a thoroughly modern, bright and airy, and
supremely comfortable ‘home from home’.
Passenger accommodation is arranged on
nine spacious decks served by eight lifts,
wide corridors and stairways. Extensive teak
decking adds to the sense of spaciousness,
and in addition to the extensive outdoor
areas, there are several beautifully appointed
lounges boasting panoramic picture windows
– perfect for taking in the views on the scenic
cruises, or enjoying the light on days at sea.
Two beautifully appointed dining rooms, the
Waldorf and the Kensington, as well as a less
formal buffet-style bistro, which offers indoor
and outdoor dining, vie for your custom, and
there are three lounge bars and three deck
bars, in which to while away a convivial hour
or two. Other on-board amenities include
a Night Club, Casino and the magnificent,
multi-tiered Magellan Show Lounge, while for
the energetic and body-conscious, Magellan
offers a marvellous, beautifully appointed
wellness centre, gym, pools and Jacuzzis.
A well-stocked shopping gallery, Internet
centre and library can also be found on board.

Life on Board Magellan
Life on board Magellan
by relaxed day...
Your floating ‘home from home’ is not only equipped with a full
range of facilities to keep you occupied during long passages at
sea, but that there are also plenty of places in which to rest, relax
and get away from it all.
Each day of your wonderful holiday, the
Cruise Director and the team will provide a full
programme of entertainment and activities,
from light-hearted quizzes to fascinating port
lectures and talks from guest speakers on
a variety of topics, from exercise classes to
dance instruction, the chance to learn a new
skill from an on-board craftsperson, to improve
on an old one, or to take part in a friendly
Bridge competition in the Nansen Card Room.
Full details are published in the Daily Bulletin
delivered to your cabin, and you can choose
to join in or not as you wish.
Indeed, the greatest pleasure of a cruise
holiday can be choosing to do nothing other
than to curl up with a good book in a quiet
corner of the Livingstone Library, or to soak up
the sun’s rays on an Amundsen Deck lounger.
Life on board Magellan is all about joining-in – or
not joining-in as you wish – the choice, and the
pleasures, are all yours.

Wellness & Beauty
Shore Excursions
Magellan is especially well equipped for those
looking to combine the relaxing joys of life at
sea with a little gentle – or even not-so-gentle –
exercise and some well-deserved pampering.
Whenever Magellan arrives in a new port of
call, there are opportunities to explore in the
company of friendly, professional tour guides,
on organised shore excursions that will help
you make the most of your stay in each
destination. Full details and prices are supplied
well in advance of departure, for those wishing
to plan and budget early, although there are
nearly always places available up to a few
days prior to arrival in any given port – perhaps
you’ll be inspired by a guest lecturer to explore
a particular aspect of a destination, having
attended a port-talk on board. There’s nothing
more exciting, following arrival, than descending
the walkway onto the quayside to board a
waiting coach to begin a new adventure in
another of the world’s most colourful and
fascinating corners.
For the more energetic, the three pools and
Jacuzzis beckon, and the gym is well equipped
with both free weights and fitness machines.
Make yourself a programme and set yourself
a target for the cruise – who knows, you
might even be able to resist the effects of the
inevitable calorie-fest you’ll encounter in the
ship’s restaurants – though who can resist the
temptation, once exercise is done, of a cocktail
or fruit juice in the Lido or Neptune bars?
The beautifully appointed Jade Wellness Centre
provides the highest levels of health and
beauty treatments, from qualified experts as
well as hairdresssing services.
On-board Services
There is plenty of time to browse in The Mall,
Magellan’s shopping centre, for both essentials
and souvenirs of your cruise, and there’s the
chance to keep in touch with home in the onboard internet café. Of course, the Reception on
Baltic Deck is manned 24 hours a day to answer
any questions you may have, and in the unlikely
event that you need their services, there is also
a fully equipped Medical Centre on board.
Of course, it’s always possible to step ashore
to explore under your own steam… or even to
stay aboard to enjoy the atmosphere of a day in
port, should you choose – as ever, it’s up to you!
However you decide to spend your time,
magnificent Magellan and her crew will ensure
each day is more memorable than the last.
Life on Board Magellan
...and by
glittering night
When evening comes, with the sun beginning to set – and on most of
these cruises there will be no shortage of magnificent, balmy sunsets
to enjoy – Magellan puts on a different cloak, ready to entertain and
delight until late into the night.
Begin the evening by enjoying a pre-dinner
cocktail in a choice of three welcoming bars on
Magellan Deck, perhaps meeting up with newfound friends in the Captain’s Club, Churchill’s
or ritzy Sinatra’s, before heading to dinner. Of
course, not every evening is a formal one, and
as an alternative to the Waldorf or Kensington
dining rooms, you can always enjoy a lighter
meal in the indoor section of Raffles.
artistes, or head back to the quieter corners of
a bar for a nightcap. Let the pianist serenade
you in Sinatra’s, head to Casino Royale for a
flutter, or to watch others trying their luck, then
if the stars are out, take a final turn on deck.
Dedicated night owls are catered for on board
Magellan, with the chance for them to head to
Scott’s to dance the hours away, or to enjoy a
midnight snack in the Captain’s Club.
Following a delicious meal in convivial
surroundings, you might take your seat in the
magnificent Magellan Show Lounge for the
sparkling performance by the ship’s troupe of
accomplished entertainers or special guest
When the evening’s finally done, retire to your
comfortable cabin, ready for another day’s
adventures tomorrow.

Dining on Magellan
– always a pleasure!
First-class
Entertainment
As you’d expect, there is an equally wide
range of options when it comes to meal
times on board Magellan, whether outdoors
in Columbus Deck’s informal Raffles Bistro – a
popular choice on balmy days – or in one of two
more-formal indoor dining rooms, the Waldorf
and Kensington, both located on Amundsen
Deck. While it’s always difficult to adhere to
calorie-counting on–board ship, there are
always ‘Healthy Options’, from which to choose
on board and Magellan’s chefs will prepare
dishes in accordance with special diets, with
prior notification. Wherever you choose to take
your meals, you will enjoy delicious cuisine
prepared by the ship’s skilled chefs, served by
friendly, attentive waiters, and accompanied
by your choice from the ship’s extensive and
reasonably priced wine list. During each longer
cruise there will be a Captain’s Welcome and
Farewell Party, as well as special dinners,
themed according to Magellan’s location on
the face of the globe.
One of the great pleasures of cruising –
Magellan-style – is being able most evenings
to enjoy the performances laid on in the
magnificent two-tiered Magellan Show
Lounge, a wonderful venue that will play
host to a variety of talented artists – singers,
dancers, musicians and comedians – who will
deliver first-class entertainment throughout
each cruise. Choreographed by the Cruise
Director and the team, each special evening
will showcase the talents of established
performers and new faces, and during each
voyage, you might find yourself dazzled by
selections from the great musicals, themed
evenings – often linked with the destination in
which you find yourself – mesmerising magic
and illusion and breathtaking dance displays.
With such a talented on-board troupe, and with
a wide and varied programme planned, there
will be something for everyone on each of the
cruises.
Of course, all meals on board Magellan,
including afternoon tea and cakes, are included
in the great value cruise prices.
“
“
The entertainment
was of a very high
standard throughout
the ship, which was
very much enjoyed.
The meals and
restaurant service
were again, of a
very high standard,
as was the cabin
house keeping.
