
GROWTH OF RETAIL MOBILE APPLICATIONS
Usage of retailer shopping applications have
increased 525% in 2012

SMARTPHONE USAGE IN RETAIL SPACES
• 70% of consumers use their smartphone in a mall
• 79% of smartphone users expect some assistance
from their smartphone while shopping
• 74% of application users declare following a
search by an actual purchase

Market
« Find the right product or service easily »
« Receive suggestions according my shopping list,
when they are close to hand »
« Obtain the most efficient path for a shopping list »
« Notify users of deals and promotions when they go
near the concerned products »

Market
Delete the « search time » from the customer experience
 The search time is a negative element of the customer path. It degrades the
experience in the point of sale. Reducing the search time does not mean a reduction
in the duration of visits, but a greater availability of the customer.
Average basket increase
 Mechanically by reducing oversights and products not found
 With localised suggestions (according to position and behaviour)
Improved customer knowledge
 A new dimension to the monitoring of consumer behaviour at the point of sale
 Tools that are similar to those already available in e-commerce
Loyalty
…providing, innovative, useful and effective services that improve customers experience

 System installation:
 Environment: exhibition hall
 3 RHCP antennas
 40m between antennas
 1 PRN per antenna (33, 34, 35)
 Test methodology:
 Place the antenna at a reference test point & 1m height
 Launch receiver & log positions (2 Hz refresh rate) for 60 seconds
H2020 Info Days – December 12th, 2013

 The C/A GPS codes broadcast by each
antenna have a 24 dB cross-correlation in
the worse cases
 Code offsets have been chosen to ensure
60 dB isolation on +/- 3 chips

i-GOing
 A system with the required characteristics was built & tested
 Static and dynamic tests sessions were logged and show that submeter accuracy can be reached
 More extended testing & development will be carried. The
improvement areas which are identified include:
 Improving robustness to fading
 Using more antenna sites to implement Receiver Autonomous Integrity
Monitoring (RAIM) algorithms,
 Multiple PRNs per antenna & different types of diversity
