A Look into our Classroom
With the last Sunday of January falling on the 31st of the month, we began February this year with Catholic
Schools Week. Open House went very well. The students had a great time during Catholic Schools Week. The
students each decorated a prayer rock and the campuses exchanged the rocks. Each day the students pray for
the person who received the rock they decorated. They also made Valentines cards to be given to a nursing
home, and thank you cards for each of the sustaining parishes. We had Favorite Team Day, a city-wide Mass at
St. Joseph High School, Pajama and Pancake Day, and Minute-to-Win-It, in which students competed with
teachers in various silly contests.
With Ash Wednesday on February 10th, we began the season of Lent. All of the crosses and statues throughout
the school have been covered with purple as a reminder of the season. The entire school got together with their
buddies and traced both of their hands. One hand was colored in red and the other in blue. On one hand the
students wrote something that they will give up for Lent, and on the other, they wrote positive actions they
will do during Lent. The hands were arranged on a wall outside the cafeteria. A large paper cross is displayed
there. The hands are arranged to resemble the rays coming from the heart of Jesus in the Divine Mercy image.
We also made a Lenten Passport which contains suggestions for good deeds they might do during Lent.
This month we began our I’m a Rockin’ Kid Project. It’s been so fun to see the students’ baby, toddler, and
other family pictures. The students are enjoying giving and watching the presentations! Thanks parents, for
sending in the wonderful photographs!
