Galatians 5:1, 13-25 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the COLLECT Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if (or Gathering Prayer) you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissentions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, Lord of all power and might, author and giver and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of of all good things, graft God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If into our hearts the love we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. of Your name and nourish us with all goodness that we may love and serve our neighbor; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. VERSE: Alleluia. When the day drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. Alleluia. Luke 9:51-62 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village. As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God. "Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Rev. We understand Communion to be more than just a symbol or a statement--it is a “means of grace.” Like the Bible, it proclaims the fearful cost of our salvation, the depth of our Savior’s love, and the perfect trust we can have because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is an intimate moment where God himself is with us, bringing us together, and blessing us. It should never be taken lightly. So, the Bible tells us: “A person ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” (I Corinthians 11:28). If you are unsure about Holy Communion, please come forward and simply fold your arms across your chest as a signal to Pastor that you would like to receive a blessing.
