Mr. Lin is a Patient with severe dementia, who is currently receiving
hospitalization treatment. One morning after the nursing handover to the next shift,
the nurse was making her/his rounds and taking vital signs.
(護理師交班後，正在幫病人量血壓)
N: Good morning Mr. Lin , I’m here to measure your blood pressure !(開始量血壓)
P: Morning, is it time for breakfast later?
N: Please do not speak. Otherwise the measurement won’t be accurate!
P: Ok then.
N: Alright, your blood pressure is normal, and Yes it’s time for breakfast later!
P: Ok, then I’ll head out to buy some breakfast(起身穿衣服),(轉頭)do you need me to
buy some for everyone else?
N: Mr. Lin, Please wait a second! Your wife has already bought it for you and put it on
the table.
P: Oh right! I forgot, so I just finished eating, right?
N: Nope, not yet.
P: Really? .....(搔頭)
N: Yeah, you eat first, your wife will be back soon.
P: Alright.(護理師回到護理站)
D(B): Miss Tsai，have you seen Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang from room A210 ?
N: No I haven't，I've just came back from Mr. Lin's room，I'll broadcast over the
PA(public address) for you.
D(B): Sure，thanks.
(Over the PA: May Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang from room A210 please return to your
room，your attending doctor is here to see you )
(主治醫師(A)與實習醫師至林先生的病房查房)
D(A)，Intern : Good morning Mr. Lin.
P: Good morning, doctor.
Intern: Did you sleep well last night ?
P: Sure did ! I even went to see the cherry blossoms blooming .
D(A): when did you say that was ?
P: Yesterday ! Didn't we even meet ? How can you forget ?
D(A): You are hospitalized now, this is a hospital , you didn't go see the cherry
blossoms.
P: Oh is that what this is ? A hospital ?
(正好太太走進病房，病人疑惑的看著太太)
P: Didn't we see the cherry blossoms yesterday ?
F: Darling，that was three months ago
P: Is that so ?
F: Is Dr. Wang off today ? Why is there a different doctor ?
(病人持續疑惑著)
D(A): Hello, I'm the attending today ,Mr. Wang couldn't make it so I'm taking over .
F: Oh, ok.
D(A): We're gonna have to do a blood draw today .
P: Why ? What's it for ?
D(A): Just for a routine check up.
P: Ok
Intern: Please roll up your sleeves and ball your fist tight please. (抽血)
D(A): Mrs. Lin May I have a word with you in the discussion room ?
F: Yes that's fine.(家屬跟著實習醫師及主治醫師(A)一同到討論室)
(主治醫師(A)與實習醫師在討論室跟家屬討論檢查報告)
D(A):This CT scan show an atrophy in Mr. Lin’s brain, we’re diagnosed it as
Alzheimer’s.
F: Then… what can we do about it?
Intern: For now we will give him medical treatment, usually at home you can ask him
to dance for you. You can take him to dance some Karaoke, but because of his severe
dementia, there may be a risk that he gets lost, or you could play hide-and-seek with
him.
F: Isn’t that dangerous?
Intern: Can you please respect our profession?
F: Ok alright, I understand.
(廣播:May Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang from room A2010 please return to your room,
your doctor is here to see you)
(家屬跟著實習醫師及主治醫師(A)一同到病室)
D(A):Mr. Lin your situation is poor now , we were hoping you can be hospitalized
more permanently.
P: But I want to go home.
D(A):This can be your home, you can go to another home when you are better.
Intern: Mr. Lin I brought your medication over, this is your medicine today.
P: Do I take it now?
D(A): Yes, please open your mouth.
(在病人正要吃下去的時候，護理師跟主治醫師(B)剛好進來)
D(B): Nurse: Mr. Lin what are you eating?
D: My medicine! The doctor gave it to me.
D(B): Don’t eat that.
D(A): I prescribed it why shouldn’t he?
You’re just jealous because I’m better than you, that why you won’t let him take my
prescription. (病人、家屬，一臉茫然，不知所措)
N: Stop this nonsense! How can you just give people medicine like this?
D(A)、Intern: We didn’t steal it, we’re doctors!
D(B): Stop it! If you don’t behave you will both be confined!
(主治醫師(A)、實習醫師，對看一眼)
D(A)、Intern: Ok we’re done, we’ll stop. (立正站好)
(病人及家屬無辜地看著跟另外四人)
F: Who is this doctor?
D(B): I’m terribly sorry, these two here are patients here at the hospital.
F: Are they also ill?
D(B): They sure are, I’m sorry for the trouble.
N: Mr. Wang, Mr. Chen, may you please follow me back to your room please?
