This application period runs from Monday, February 1st through April 29th. Interested suburban residents must apply online at http://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment/applications during the application period. Parents must also provide transportation for their child(ren) to and from school, as transportation is not offered with this program. If you have moved outside of the City of Milwaukee since February, 2015, and are currently on a Temporary Tuition Waiver through Open Enrollment, this is also the time for you to apply for Open Enrollment so that your child(ren) can continue at IDEAL next year. Family Movie Night: On Thursday, January 21st the P.T.A. will be sponsoring our annual Family Movie Night in the school gym. Please complete the RSVP being sent home today to reserve your spot & assist us with planning! Primary Unit: -It has been a very busy week in the Primary Unit! We are all busy little learners. The students are all into our chemistry unit on matter. We are learning about solids, liquids, and gases and how they can change from one state to the next. We have been busy taking our Star test in reading this week. Thanks to everyone who made sure their child/children were well rested and had a healthy breakfast before school. It is proven that this improves brain function and gives us all the extra energy our bodies need. Remember, all students in the primary unit are taking the Star Reading test this time. We will be taking the math portion next week. On this note, it is also very important that all children are coming to school on time each day. Lots of rest and a healthy breakfast will also help everyone stay healthier during this cold and flu season also. -Just a few reminders….we are still in need of glue sticks, crayons and gallon size storage bags. Thanks to those of you who sent in donation last week! We really appreciate it. Also, the weather has been very cold this week. Please continue to send all the proper cold weather gear: hats, mittens, boots, snowpants, etc… Also, remember to send extra shoes so students can wear dry shoes during the school day. Finally, please continue to read each night with your child. It is very important for children to read daily to build their oral reading fluency (how smoothly they can read out loud). This directly supports the reading standard of: I.RF.4b Read on –level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression. Have a wonderful week!!!! Elementary Unit: -This week the elementary students are taking their STAR Test in reading and math. We look forward to seeing growth in both areas from all of our students. -The students have been busy learning about atoms and molecules and solids, liquids, and gases in science. In social studies the students are learning about Wisconsin’s dairy industry and in thematic literacy the students have been working on identifying facts and opinions and practicing their research skills. -Our second visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum for the Junior Docent School Program will take place Tuesday, January 26th.
