GRANDMA’S PEAR TREE
EL PERAL DE ABUELA
Activity #1
Creative Writing and Discussion
Materials Needed
• Paper
• Pencils
• Crayons or Markers
Directions
1. In Grandma’s Pear Tree / El peral de Abuela, Jessie used some silly things to get his ball down. Have the
children draw a picture of a tree with serious or silly things they would use to get a ball out of the tree.
2.
On a separate paper, have children write about what they drew and how they think those items would help
remove the ball from the tree. (i.e., The wings on a chicken will make wind to blow the ball down.)
Discussion
• Talk with children about a time they did something wrong and thought they would get in trouble, but didn’t.
• A variety of animals are portrayed in Grandma’s Pear Tree / El peral de Abuela. Have the children say whether or
not each animal can be found in the city? Why? Can they name some animals that are not found on a farm, but
only in the city? Why?
