Semban also has known “Paradise above the clouds” or “village for last generation of ring ladies”. Actually Semban is not name of the village, but it word comes from their ethnic called “mbhan”.Kampung Semban is the only village in Sarawak where the ring ladies are found. Semban culture is one of the best among the sub-tribes of the Bidayuh. Bengoh Dam is the first journey proceed to Semban Village. You must have a permit if want to cross over Bengoh Dam because it’s for safety. Trekking to Semban village will take five to six hours, it depends on fitness level trek through jungle trails passing bamboo groves, paddy field, pepper vines, rubber trees, durians orchards and waterfall. Trekking to Semban Village is about 10km from Bengoh Dam. We don’t have to fix to trek. It’s because many pit stop area along the trekking. In this trekking, it’s have many stages that we have to step. Its look tired but become more interesting when we feel it’s enjoy. There are 3 Bidayuh villages to arrive Kampung Semban which is Kampung Bojong Pain, Kampung Rejoi, and Kampung Taba Sait. All this together located at Bengoh Dam. The interesting when trekking to Semban is hanging bamboo bridges. This bridge is made from steel wire ropes strung across the river. Along the trekking, it has 2 long bamboo bridges that we have to cross over. These bamboo bridge are the only one means of crossing the rivers during flooding in rainy season. One will have to cross six huge bamboo bridges, it can take four to seven hours to get Semban Village, depending on the weather. The Semban Village is really quite unique and good fresh air for refreshment ourself. Waterpipe from the hill is like ice cold specially early morning. Semban village has two beautiful waterfalls which is Susukng and Pent Waterfall. The highest waterfall is Susukng waterfall. Susukng waterfall is a massive waterfall with boulders littered all over but to get the bottom waterfalls was a bit tricky. Petn waterfall has to walk 30 minutes from Susukng waterfall. Many of guest say that Petn Waterfall is like a curtain because of the position. You can do picnic lunch at Petn Waterfall because of the area is strategic for cooking and relaxing with a cup of coffee or tea also refreshing air. One of the activities that you can do is, cooking in the bamboo. Means that, every meals can cook in the bamboo. The unique when cooking inside bamboo is the taste was different and delicious. Nothing is amazing when journey to Semban, its very more experience and challenging trekking. It’s very try yours mentally and physical fitness when do trekking especially in the morning. You have to wake up 5’oclock in the morning and have to trekking about 20 to 30 minutes to the hill top to see sunrise, means that 540ft from sea level and 130ft from our guide homestay. It can be the best memories that would be how beautiful the world with natural environment especially in the morning. At the top of hills, we can see the clouds covering the entire village. That’s why that place when in early morning it was very cold. While waiting for sunrise, you also can breakfast with a cup of coffee or tea and also take a photo to get in memories. This is one of Semban village attractions. Before this in that village, only 7 women still wear ring because of the new generation prefer bracelet and anklets. Now, there have 8 women wearing the rings. The ring is look like the spring if we see very close with your eyes. Wearing the rings is more the personal choice. Bidayuh women were very proud with their ring, they can dance very well compare to others whose visit their village. Eagle dance combine with traditional instrument called Hletung is very nice with their sound musician. There so creative use bamboo until can made one of traditional instrument. The ‘Eagle Dance’ which is only girls was allowed to dance during festive celebrations. It was a shame for a girl without rings to dance. ‘Hletung’ the traditional music instrument in Semban that made from the suitbale bamboo. They also familiar to teach every guest visit their village how to dance and playing ‘Hletung’. So you can get some experience that expect people to visit Semban. ‘Baruk’ or ‘Panggah’ is the headman for keep the skulls of enemies are kept and for chief and warrior hold their meeting. These heads are like trophies to them and it represent their abilities. When in ‘Baruk’ you are not allowed to touch anything inside that place because of something that you can’t expect can happen.
