" The greater the obstacle,
The more glory in
Overcoming it." Moliere
President Chuck Sauls –
The year continues to fly by. The kids are
back in school. The Board and I have
been working on the yearly schedule. We
have several months of activities
planned. We have planned meetings for
the next 4 months. The golf committee
has established a great location for our
fall Charity Scholarship tournament. The
social committee is working on locations
for the Holiday Party. And finally we are
preparing for our next Beef on the Butler.
This months speaker should be of great
interest to all of you. Ted Angelo Executive Vice President Grunau Company
one of Central Florida’s leading fire protection contractors, will be discussing
BIM (building information modeling),
IPD (Integrated project Delivery) method
as well as Lean Construction. Grunau
Company invested heavily in this current
technology several years ago and is currently reaping the benefits of its benefits.
Grunau is utlilizing BIM to reduce conflicts in the construction process, as well
as reduce production time by implementing pre-fabricated piping which is di-

rectly produced from the model. Ted
will discuss the implementation as well
as the benefits of the systems to help
reduce overall construction costs.
September is going to be our Beef on the
Butler event. Friday September 24th will
be our infamous fun event Beef on the
Butler or Steak on the Lake. This is a
great social event we have in lieu of a
monthly meeting to get together outside
and have a great steak meal. The event
will be from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Orange
County Sportsman’s Club on Lake Sheen
in Bay Hill. This is a great event to bring
a guest / future member to. Steaks and all
the fixin’s for a great meal will be provided and prepared by several members.
The social committee is looking hard for
a location to have a cigar social. These
are great events to socialize and recruit
members. Some suggestions for a location have been the new arena for a Magic
game. We will be following up on the
smoking provisions. The committee is
trying to finalize the location for the Fall

Holiday party. More details to follow.
Finally our Charity Scholarship Golf
tournament will be held November 8th at
The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Point.
This is our premier golf outing where we
raise our scholarship funds for distribution each year. Last year we raised and
awarded over $10,000 in scholarships.
Look for your foursome’s now save the
date and be prepared to help look for
sponsorship opportunities. I know times
have been tough but things are starting to
come around. We need a great showing
for this event, we also need some great
sponsors.
The board and I would like to thank all
of you for your support. Please look for
new members and bring them to these
very interesting events. We would also
like to get your feedback on upcoming
seminars. Look
for a online forum in the coming month on our
website.

National Director News
I bring news from the National Board. On August 13th I made the trip to beautiful Charlotte NC for the National board meeting. First of unfortunately our own Alfredo Barrott National Board Treasure was forced to resign due economic and time constraints – I would like to thank Alfredo for all his great work not only as National Director and
Past National Treasurer but also for his great work here in Orlando as a long time member and past Chapter Treasurer and National Director - we hope to maintain Alfredo
as a local chapter member through this difficult time. Wesley Ferree was nominated and approved as the next National Treasurer in Alfredo’s stead
Additionally during the national board meeting the board received a presentation on the far reaching impacts of the EPA Lead Renovation, Repair & Painting (RR&P)
Program – This rule was mainly identified and made visible as a Residential / Multifamily Remediation Contractor Impact for buildings built before 1978. In essence the rule
also applies to any building/area that has a substantial presence of children on a regular basis. The presentation indicated that some of the structures that fit this category
are schools, convention centers, theme parks, day care, hospital, military bases, office building that may service child services or daycare facilities, etc… . This rule applies
to any project that has lead / heavy metal present and is disturbed (the demonstration that was presented had the speaker (Mark Hartz / ACES) blow a sugar packet into the
room and said that if that were lead containing dust that he had just contaminated a 25,000 sf space according to the existing standards). The very concerning piece of
news was that the fines from the EPA are based on $37,500 per occurrence per day and are retroactive (meaning they can start fining you from the day a permit was
pulled). Based on the presentation, to be in compliance with this regulation, a company that pulls a permit on a job with lead paint needs to be registered with the EPA and
workers doing the work need to be certified. All actual workers involved need to be certified and supervised by a qualified person (qualified people train with a nationally
certified trainer 8 hour hands on course then those individuals can then train inside companies as long as paper work is filled and maintained correctly). Based on the presentation currently Florida and Georgia are based on the EPA registration which is filling out a form and paying the fee of $300 for 5 years. Some states like North Carolina
have stricter guidelines with $300 per year fees and certification requirements prior to even being able to apply for the registration. Below is a clarification of the rule as well
as a sample flyer with some information – The presenter Mark Hartz ACES (through Greenville Technical College) is a certified instructor he said their course is $250 per
person 8 hours with some minimum class sizes
It is also time to start thinking about National Convention Next year. The Dates are April 29th to May 4th 2011 and will be held aboard Carnival Cruise Ship “Fantasy” Sailing
from Charleston, SC. National convention committee is still hammering out final costs structure but approximate costs will be $1200 per Cabin (location and occupancy
varies), plus a small registration fee, parking at port if required and alcohol (will probably require a passport). The National board has reserved 81 cabins and need deposits
to guarantee the cabin of $500/cabin by December 15th 2010 with final payment to National by Feb 14th 2011 – After Feb 14th cancelation charges start applying. When we
have firm dollar values we will send out additional information. Convention is always a time to remember or forget so get your sea legs on.
Lastly standard book keeping items, nationally our roster show over 600 members 12 Chapters. Nationally we have a yearly Budget of approximately $85K and have
checking account of $55K and $39K in outstanding investments. Thanks to Patti Eaves, Chuck Sauls and Wild Apricot (potato) – Ok mostly Patti Eaves we have our new
National Website up and running. We can now access the member data base for all of the chapters.
http://www.pceaoa.memberlodge.org/
Currently some redirecting of the website still needs to take place (you can still find the old national website via search engines) and some education for other chapters will
need to be advanced to bring the whole organization into line branding wise but we are making strides and look to this consolidated effort to market the PCEA Organization
in the future
