Friday 20th January 2017
Dear parents and carers,
We are half way through the month of January. How can this
be? I am sure it was only a few days ago we were counting
down to the New Year! What wonderful things have your
children been up to this week? Well we kick started the week
with all of our Year 2’s attending a Maths workshop run by
PGCE student teachers at Goldsmiths. The children thoroughly
enjoyed the experience and found the many different
Mathematical activities
great fun to do. Some
of our Year 5 also
attended the Maths
workshop in the afternoon. The Course lecturer and the Maths
lecturer had delightful things to say about all of our pupils. Your
children are a credit to our school and most importantly a credit
to their families.
Dear Emily,
I would like to let you know how brilliant the children were
during the Maths workshop today. The Year 2 and Year 5
children were really engaged and behaved beautifully, and the
student teachers gained a lot from working with them. Please
pass this on to the children and staff. Thank you - it was a really
successful event and the children were a credit to you and your
school.

that time. Kudos to jack from 3HY whose lunch was stolen from
his bag by the Tower’s Ravens.
Enrichment activities started this week. All enrichments finish at

ask all parents to wait patiently outside in the playground when
collecting your child for any after school activities?
Parking: I am disappointed and embarrassed to have to yet
again drone on about the dangerous parking of some of our
parents outside on Monson Road. This is totally unacceptable,
no matter how short a time is involved. Under no circumstances
should anyone park in front of the school emergency gates. You
are restricting the visibility of pedestrians, increasing the risk of
a serious accident to a child not to mention you are restricting
the access for emergency
services. We are all part of the
same local community and should
be
respectful
to
parking
restrictions and most importantly
to each other. If the dangerous
parking continues, it will leave me
with no choice but to only have
one entrance into the school
grounds open, which will be the
Camplin street entrance. This is
unfair to all our families who park in safe places or are walking
to school with their children and to be honest this is something
I do not wish to do, however if the dangerous parking continues
this will be the schools next move.
Some of our Year 4 took part in a basketball competition against
14 other schools in Lewisham. They did extremely well we
reached the finals! I won’t spoil the news so read Ms Morris’s I really do not like ending on a negative note but this is
recount and find out how well we did! Our Year 5 and 6 boys important and your children’s safety is my priority.
also did exceptionally well in their football competition on
Thursday which took place at the Den, Millwall football ground.
They competed against 20 schools. So you can imagine we are
all so proud of our sports team. Go team HTG!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your families!
Our Year 3’s had a blast on Thursday on their class trip to the
Tower of London. This trip links in with their English topic on
report writing. Over the last three weeks the children have
Miss Gyimah
written wonderful reports on Queen Elizabeth II then moved

onto King Henry the VIII and his six wives! The children focused
on Tudor London and the importance of the Tower of London at

SPORTS NEWS:
On Tuesday our year 4 basketball team participated in the Lewisham basketball tournament at the Thunderdome.
They played 4 round robin games against Holbeach, and Prendergast Vale and won every game with superb passing
and shooting from the 3 point line. This meant we were up against Tidemill in the quarter finals! Another great display of teamwork and determination saw us beat last year’s finalist 6-0, leading to a semi-final tussle against Holy
Trinity a very close game followed with Holy Trinity taking a 2 point lead, despite playing with an injury Ishmail managed to find the basket late into the final quarter and HTG were in the final. Unfortunately we had lost some of our
momentum by this point as fatigue began to set in, however we put in an admirable performance against Brindish
Green, who won the competition. All 10 basketball players were fantastic and a real credit to the school, a special
mention goes to Timi who won the sporting spirit award for determination on the day.
