Ahlm, senior chemical engineer, has received a fellowship at the Institute of Paper Chemistry, Appleton, Wis. Chas. L. Henry Knoblauch, B.S. 1935, Minn., has secured a position with the Minneapolis Honeywell Regulator Co. Editor Dr. Irvin Douglas, chairman of the department of chemistry of the Northern Normal College at Havre, was a recent campus visitor. Dr. Douglas is taking steps to have his institution included in this section of the A. C. S. Miss Ruth MacFarlane, instructor in pharmacy at the North Pacific College at Portland, was married to Wales W o o d on Christmas day. Mrs. W o o d is continuing her work as a member of North Pacific College teaching staff. Dr. Frank B. Kirby, director of education of the Abbott Laboratories, on a tour of the northwest, addressed the students of the University on "Catching Vitamins on Fish Hooks." Dr. Kirby centered his remarks on the histories of the cod liver and halibut liver oil industries to their present efficient status. The utility of certain food products of various regions and seasons with respect to sunlight effects was also considered. Arthur J. Longpre of E. R. Squibb & Company, a graduate of the School of Pharmacy, also addressed the students recently on vitamin therapy. LOUISVILLE H. E. CARSWELL, University OF Louisville, Editor The January meeting was addressed by Dr. J. S. Long, Director of Research for the Devoe and Raynolds Company, Inc. Dr. Long spoke on "Drying Oils." Theta Chi Delta, honorary chemical fraternity at the University of Louisville, is sponsoring a moving picture, the "Mystic Key," which deals with the recovery of bromine from sea water. Dr. A. W . Hornberger is chairman of the chemistry section of the program for the 13th meeting of the American Association of Dental Schools which meets at the Brown Hotel, Louisville, March 16-18. Dr. E. E. Litkenhous, formerly of the Goodyear Company, has been appointed assistant professor of chemical engineering in the Speed Scientific School of the University of Louisville. Dr. Litkenhous received the M.S. degree from the University of Louisville in 1930 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1933. The local section had the privilege of hearing Dr. E. W . Reed of the Mellon Institute speak on "Commercial Developments in Aliphatic Compounds" at the February meeting.
