Football season is here already!! Sunday Packer parties are just weeks away time does fly
by!
We had a great attendance for the town hall meeting
and I thank everyone who attended. Great questions
were asked and everyone walked away with a better
understanding of Mooseheart, Moosehaven, our
mission and our Lodge operations. However, the
common theme was what can we do as a member to
help our Lodge? It was agreed that the Lodge could
use or needs more volunteers so that the burden is not
too heavy for only a few. Help is needed to have
people on committees that can share in planning and
help carrying out various activities that include
organizing parties/events and entertainment,
decorating the Lodge for the various season,
community service events, fundraiser for the Lodge to
help out with improvements, sporting events, kitchen
and food sales and membership retention to just name
a few. This is an opportunity to have fun and meet
new friends while at the same time helping out your
Lodge to make it a fun, friendly and inviting
atmosphere for our members and guests to enjoy. If
interested please reach out to myself, our Governor
Doug Knight or our Senior Regent Angela Kappen. I
do hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe summer
and look forward to seeing you at the Lodge this fall.
It was great seeing everyone who attended our family picnic, what fun we had, the weather
was perfect.
We held our first town hall meeting and one of the many topics discussed is our kitchen
and our lack of consistency. First I would like to thank Jon and Deb for stepping in and
taking care of Wing Wednesday and our Friday Fish Fry. They do a great job!
Thursday’s are now Taco Thursday’s with soft and hard shell tacos and loaded nachos
with a do it yourself toppings bar so you can fix’em the way you like them and to top that
off we’ve moved $3.00 Mexican bottles and Margarita’s to Thursday’s. As we get settled
in on Thursday nights we hope to add specials and a couple of appetizers to the Thursday
night menu. We need volunteers to run our Taco night. It would be great to get a few
couples or teams to perhaps take 1 Thursday a month. That type of team work can only
be beneficial in the long run. If anyone is interested in a more active role in the Kitchen,
or knows of someone who may be, we are looking to hire a part-time cook. Please see me
for more information. That being said we are looking to serve on Saturday’s with
volunteer help for the time being. I have one member who said he would be up for the
challenge, if anyone else is interested once again, please contact me.
If you have any ideas for events or what you would like to see in our Lodge, or a charity
or community service event you would like to see us get involved in please let us know.
Charity and community service is what we, the Moose, are all about.
It’s Great to be a Moose!
God bless you all,
Fraternally,
Doug Knight

The Higher Degree Chairman, Karen Thibedeau and her Committee are pleased to provide

The Wander Guard system protects our residents from the risks of wandering, through
advanced radio frequency technology that respects the dignity of the individual and enables
staff to focus on providing care.
Elevators in the skilled nursing facility will operate normally until a resident wearing Wander
Guard tries to activate it. The elevator will not function and staff will be notified.
Wander Guard is not as restrictive as having staff monitoring every move.
Karen Thibedeau, Higher Degree Chairman and her committee’s fundraising project will be
$5 Fundraising Tuesday’s from October through March. With the support of our Moose

CHAPTER MEETINGS
1ST & 3RD Thursdays
7:00 PM
It’s hard to believe it’s time of Christmas in October!
At the October 6th meeting, Mooseheart/Moosehaven Chairman Meggie Schaefer and her
committee will hold “Christmas in October” on behalf of our children at Mooseheart and
senior residents at Moosehaven.
Our Mooseheart children know that because of the WOTM, they, too, will have a joyful
Christmas season. The WOTM provide funds for photo Christmas cards, Christmas parties
in each residence, lovely decorations and special treats. There is friendly competition to be
the best decorated home with the best-decorated tree. The Mooseheart/Moosehaven
committee and co-workers also provide funds for a special Christmas gift for each child.
At Moosehaven special events include the annual Christmas dinner and party, New Year’s
Eve party, Thanksgiving dinner, off-campus trips, as well as many monthly social gatherings
both on campus and at the Life Care Center. These gatherings afford residents the opportunity
to sing, dance and laugh the night away. Generally, music, food and beverages are provided
to the residents free of charge. A great time is had by everyone including Moosehaven staff
members who give of their personal time to attend and make sure the residents are well taken
care of.
Each year, the Committee also conducts a Monetary Gift Walk. Members are invited to
contribute what they can afford to give to provide additional Christmas gifts for the
Mooseheart children and the Moosehaven seniors.
Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation and are unable to attend the meeting may
send it to:
Muskego Chapter 1617
PO Box 812
Muskego, WI 53150-0812
Please make donation checks payable to Muskego Chapter 1617 and mail them by Oct.
12th in order for the funds can be sent to International Headquarters with the monthly report.
Meggie and her committee run the 50/50 raffles at the Sheepshead Tournaments for their
fund raising project. With the support of our Moose Members, they will make a generous
donation to help support the Christmas in October Project at Mooseheart and for the Women
of the Moose Scholarship and Maintenance Fund.
STATE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN
Don't forget about the membership campaign in honor of Vickie Draeger.
Sign five members between May 1st and October 31st and you will receive a royal blue

What is a STAR RECORDER?
Let’s take a step back and review what a RECORDER is first.
Every chapter of the WOTM has a Recorder. The Recorder is the primary bookkeeper for the Chapter. This is an elected position and is part of the
Chapter Board of Officers. The current Recorder for the Muskego Chapter is Camille Theys; she has held this position for 4 years (and she’s doing a
great job!)
The Recorder is responsible for:

Submitting Chapter financial reports to Moose International by the 10th of each month

Sorting the active Chapter membership into the four Chapter Development Committees and give this list to the Senior Regent

Attending a Women’s Training Session and a 2-HOTT Training session

Filing and paying tax and government reports, including the Form 990-Exempt Organization and Form 944 on time

Recording all receipts and expenditures accurately and properly balanced

Transmitting all applications for membership to Moose International

Keeping all membership records, reports and files current

Reporting membership updates and status changes weekly

Reporting Committee Activity Night and fundraising activities to Moose International
Whew! And these are just a few of the responsibilities!
So what is a Star Recorder?
A Recorder who’s Chapter has earned the Award of Achievement for the Moose year is eligible to receive the Star Recorder Degree, one of the three
degrees a co-worker of the WOTM can earn (the other two are Academy of Friendship and College of Regents). The Star Recorder degree is bestowed
upon the eligible co-worker at the Annual International Convention. This is a wonderful and much deserved honor. Chapters celebrate new Star Recorders
as well as all Chapter Star Recorders in the month of September.
The Muskego Chapter’s current Star Recorders are (co-worker name and year the degree was earned):

Senior Regent Message. . .
Hello Co-Workers,
As summer is nearing to a close, I reflect on how much fun it was at the Lodge this
season. I hope everyone had a chance to get up there and be a part of all the fun, from
Jammin’ on Janesville nights to the Family Picnic to Muskego Fest, we had a full
season. Having said that, the fall season is fast approaching and the calendar is filling
up with many great activities. Please check the newsletter for the upcoming events.
Personally, my summer has been busy because I travel a lot for work. However, that
allows me to visit other moose lodges in our great country. As I sit and visit with
those members, I always hear the same struggles that the Muskego Lodge is having.
Not signing up new members, not getting the members to participate in Lodge
activities and the same members always helping run the activities and charity events.
It makes me wonder how we can fix these problems, how we can get our members
into Lodge 1057 and in turn be the best Lodge out there. Without our members’
participation, we won’t have the Muskego Lodge, we won’t be able to give support to
our community and we won’t be able to help our children and seniors at Mooseheart
and Moosehaven. Consider giving an hour of your time to help at one of our many
events, consider making a crockpot of soup to bring to Souper Tuesdays starting in
October, consider coming to the Lodge to have a fish fry or a beer or to just make a
new friend. There truly is something for everyone and everyone walking through our
Lodge door is greeted with a smile and a good feeling of welcome.
Remember the Moose motto, A Burden Heavy to One is Borne Light by Many. No
one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.

Moose – Raise the Roof! You have the opportunity to
talk to your friends and family and let them know of the many
ways they can be of service to our fraternity as well as in our
communities: Food Pantry, Nursing Home, the Tommy Moose
program and many, many more. What is Tommy Moose, you
ask? Tommy Moose is a stuffed moose that the Chapter makes
available to local fire and police departments for their use
where there is a child in need of comfort. What better way to
offer comfort – AND – let the public know about our
commitment in our communities.
Again, congratulations, and thanks to these sponsors for
continuing to ‘talk Moose’!

WANTED
Teens who would be interested in pioneering
or being a part of a teen club
If you are a teen or know of a teen who would be interested in
forming a teen club, please call or text Angela Kappen (414539-1841). Some ideas would be community service events,
planned group activities, helping to plan children’s events. The
options are endless and this would be a great opportunity to
meet friends, learn new skills and let the community know
about all levels of our organization.
In closing, I would like to invite you all to our Halloween Party/Tractor Pulls on
October 29th. We are having a meatloaf cook-off so come in and join the fun and
bring your special meatloaf to enter. I am proud to be a Moose and proud to call
Lodge 1057 my hometown Lodge. See you all soon.

$5 Fundraising Tuesday’s
Starting in October, $5 Fundraising Tuesdays are starting! This year we are not only
serving soup but will have other options for your Tuesday night dinner supported by
the Women of the Moose. Check it out at the Lodge and on Facebook for details as
the time gets closer.
For the 2nd year now Muskego Moose is teaming up with the
City of Muskego’s Park and Recreation Department and
Adopting-A-Park. This program is to provide trash clean-up
in a local park twice a year on an ongoing basis. We have been
awarded Lions Park. A sign was erected in the park crediting
the Muskego Moose Lodge #1057 with cleaning the park. The
first clean-up was in May and the second clean-up of the year
will be Saturday October 1st at 10 AM. The Moose Riders have
adopted a stretch of Hwy L in Big Bend and have been cleaning
up the road for several years now. It’s not hard work – it just
takes a little of your valuable time. So come out & join other
Moose members in giving back to our communities.

Not renewing your dues?
For those of you who are thinking about not paying your dues, this is to remind you of
why Muskego Chapter and the WOTM exist.
Even if you do not use the Lodge facilities very often, they $35 dues you pay each year
helps to care for the over 200 children at Mooseheart, as well as the 200+ senior Moose
members at Moosehaven. YOUR dues enable the Loyal Order to provide a home life
these children and senior members might not be able to enjoy otherwise.
So – when that dues renewal notice comes in the mail, please write that check (or pay
online) immediately.
We hope you will come to the meetings – meet your fellow Moose members – and enjoy
some of the many activities that take place – food, music, cards, pool, shuffleboard, etc.
Many members feel the Moose is a ‘second family’ with whom to enjoy life. Can we
count on you?
