ASL Classes In Georgia
The 2013-14 school year has started, and new learning opportunites are now
available to those parents and family members that wish to learn or improve
upon their American Sign Language skills. Different organizations across the
state offer opportunities to learn throughout the year. Two opportunities to
learn ASL are featured in this newsletter.
Area Classes Offered By AASD
Register for Rockdale, Dekalb, Bibb County locations
Atlanta Area School for the Deaf is offering community sign language
classes at three different locations. The cost is $50 per person for AASD/GA
PINES/local school system families with deaf/hard of hearing children. The
cost is $100 per person for community members and anyone who is not a
family member of a deaf/hard of hearing child.

ASL Classes In Kennesaw
Cobb County
Terri Jackson, ASL instructor at KPRD and Deaf, herself, will
be teaching both ASL I and ASL II classes in Kennesaw. Both
classes take place at Kennesaw Parks and Recreation Authority
(2753 Watts Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30144). Students will need to
purchase a copy of “A Basic Course in American Sign Language”,
2nd edition (ISBN: 0932666426, spiral-bound soft-cover). Register

American Sign Language I
When: Oct. 1-Nov. 19, 2013, Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $55 for Kennesaw residents; $70 for non-Kennesaw residents
This basic course is designed to interest the student in deafness,
its language and culture; and to develop receptive and expressive
skills of using fingerspelling, basic signs, facial expressions and
body language in American Sign Language (ASL).

American Sign Language II (Ages 14 & up)
When: Sept. 9 -Oct. 28, 2013, Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $55 for Kennesaw residents and $70 for non-Kennesaw
residents
Prerequisite: Students must have completed ASL 1 or have a
knowledge of the manual alphabets, numbers, basic signs and basic
sentence structures.

Volunteer Weekend @ GSD
When: Friday, Sept. 20 & Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013
Time: Friday, 1:30-5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-Noon
Focus: The presentation at the fronts of the following buildings: Kennard,
Dillard, cafeteria and dorms as well as the entrance of the school. Windows
and sidewalks will be cleaned, shrubbery, trees, and flowerbeds maintained.
Tools will not be provided. Please bring the following if you have them:
rakes, hoes, trash bags, pruners, loppers, edgers, buckets, window cleaner,
cleaning cloths, weedeaters, waterhoses and pressure washers.
