Chapter 11: Complex Inheritance and Human Heredity

Chapter 11: Complex Inheritance and Human
Heredity
Total possible points: 150
Grade Scale:
A: 150-139
B: 138-129
C: 128-118
D: 117-105
F: 104-0
Objectives:
1. Analyze Punnett squares to determine the dominant allele
2. Construct human pedigrees from genetic information
3. Distinguish between various complex inheritance patterns that don’t follow simple
dominant/recessive rules.
4. Explain how the environment can influence the expression of a trait.
5. Analyze a human karyotype (chromosome picture)
6. Assess the pros/cons of diagnostic fetal testing
General Instructions:
Complete one “layer” before going on to another layer. Each assignment has a point value based on the amount of time
and effort necessary to complete that task. You must earn the required number of points in any one layer before
moving to the next layer.
For book assignments, write out all questions or directions from the book before answering them. Be prepared to
discuss and answer questions about each of your assignments. Failure to do this will result in no credit for that
assignment. You will be awarded points by your teacher based upon your ability to discuss and answer questions about
your work. When appropriate, you may work with a partner or partners, but you must fill out all of your own paperwork
and be able to answer the teacher’s questions without any assistance.
Whenever you use sources outside of your text book or class notes, be sure to document and cite your sources. Don’t
take credit for work that isn’t yours.
If you have another idea for a way that you would like to show that you have learned the material, please discuss it with
me. I am open to other ideas besides the ones listed here.
If any of your assignments are digital or won’t fit in your binder, please include a note in that spot on your rubric
describing where I can find the assignment to grade it.
Remember to do your best work. Points listed are maximum possible.
