the wedding day diary of a bride-to-be “Our ceremony time came around before I knew it and the moment had arrived to prepare for the walk down the aisle.” 154 || Sunshine Sunshine Coast Coast Brides Brides 154 www.sunshinecoastbrides.com.au May 17th 2009 - The Wedding Day When we arrived at Maleny Manor to begin getting ready, Terrianne from Mondo Floral Designs was already there with all of our flowers so it was very exciting. I had my mother, my bridesmaids and other family members helping the team from Mondo Floral Designs to set up all the flowers. As you can imagine we had flowers everywhere and I was so excited to see the designs all come together. I was a typical handson bride and was busy with the set up all morning until the hair and make up girls ordered me to stop, sit down and be a bride! Getting ready was exciting, although that was when the nerves started. I had all my bridesmaids, my mum and my aunties around me, making sure I was hydrated, that my lipstick wasn’t smudged, and to help me get into my dress. It was mayhem for a while there but I managed to take a deep breath, close my eyes and prepare to be married! Our ceremony time came around before I knew it and the moment had arrived to prepare for the walk down the aisle. That moment really hit home! We were all standing in a line waiting to walk down the aisle and the emotion of the day really started to sink in. My younger brother Robbie who was 19, walked me down the aisle. It was so very special to have him on my arm for support. I wore a locket around my neck that had a photo of my mother and late father in it. I also wore a strand of pearls that were my grandmother’s and a delicate bracelet of my mother’s around my wrist. Seeing Brett smiling, and waiting at the end of the aisle for me was so exciting. We were about to be married and all the preparations of the past ten months lead to this moment! I managed to hold it together until the time came to say my vows. I was a little overwhelmed with emotion but with the help of my sister Alice by my side with a handkerchief, and Brett on my other side doing an impromptu dance move that made everyone giggle – I managed to get through the vows. www.sunshinecoastbrides.com.au Sunshine SunshineCoast CoastBrides Brides| |155 155 diary of a bride-to-be The Reception The reception was just as we had envisaged – all of our loving friends and family together, an abundance of flowers and candlelight, and a warm, joyful atmosphere. The Maleny Manor team were just extraordinary on our wedding day. Nothing was too much trouble for them, everything ran to schedule and we had so many comments from our guests about the outstanding service, food and wine. The level of personal service that Maleny Manor provided exceeded our expectations and we felt so looked after - which is just what any bride and groom wants on their wedding day. Louise and Brett were married under the magnificent old Ash tree in the grounds of Maleny Manor. 156 | Sunshine Coast Brides www.sunshinecoastbrides.com.au “Inspired by a delicate theme of A ‘ utumn, lace and flowers’ Louise couldn’t resist the opportunity to create a floral wonderland as a feature for her wedding day”. The Flowers Being a florist, the flowers at our wedding were a big part of my wedding day. I spent a lot of time going over different design styles and floral themes but ended up coming back to what I originally envisaged. I had thought about creating innovative, modern designs for our wedding but decided that although it would be exciting and something a bit different – it really didn’t fit our theme. I really did want the floral designs to have an earthy, natural feel, at the same time representing soft and romantic styling - yet still slightly rustic with vintage detail. If I wasn’t a florist, I would have had a lot more time to relax in the days before our wedding; however, I loved that I had the opportunity to personally create the bouquets and make Brett’s buttonhole. Together with my mother, sister and the team at Mondo Floral Designs we spent all day Friday and most of the day Saturday creating the bouquets, buttonholes, ceremony and reception flowers for our wedding. www.sunshinecoastbrides.com.au For the bouquets, I wanted to feature my favourite rose ‘the Sahara’ but I also wanted to incorporate different textures and various other flowers. To complement the creamy apricot Sahara roses, I decided to use cream miniature roses, a small pale green/pink leucodendron, miniature green succulents, chocolate magnolia foliage and a touch of small berry and dodder vine. I also included some green roses in the bridesmaids’ bouquets. The reception was an area that I really wanted to enhance with gorgeous flowers and I decided that we would have multiple vases per table with a selection of different flower varieties featured. Each design represented the tones of the colour palette and these designs were placed on lace tablecloths on each table. The week before our wedding though, I had to change a few things as mother nature decided to throw a spanner into our preparations and not everything I had ordered was available. I was a bit disappointed but this is something that, as a florist, I probably understand better than most brides!
