C.H.O.I.C.E. Cooperative, Spring 2017
“I have no greater joy than to hear
that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 JOHN 4
Mission Statement: C.H.O.I.C.E. (Christian Homes Organized in Cooperative Engagement) is a
Christ-centered, faith-based cooperative among a group of parents which provides their children
with enrichment meetings led by mentors. All enrichment meetings will reflect a Christian
perspective that honor our Lord Jesus and support our Statement of Faith. C.H.O.I.C.E. offers
opportunities for fellowship and growing in faith among the participating families and mentors.
C.H.O.I.C.E. exists to bring honor and glory to our Heavenly Father and for the building
and strengthening of His Kingdom.
Statement of Faith:
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God revealing the
love of God to the world. 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; John 3:16
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Ephesians 4:4-6
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His
miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, in His bodily
resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power
and glory. Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-4 and 1:29; Acts 1:11 and 2:22-24; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians
15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1:1-4 and 4:15
We believe that all men everywhere are lost and face the judgment of God, that Jesus Christ is
the only way of salvation, and that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, repentance of sin and
faith in Jesus Christ results in regeneration by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore we believe that God
will reward the righteous with eternal life in heaven, and that He will banish the unrighteous to
everlasting punishment in hell. Luke 24:46-47; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians
5:10-11; Ephesians 1:7 and 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christian to
live a godly life. John 3:5-8; Acts 1:8 and 4:31; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Galatians 5:1618; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:6-10
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto the resurrection of
eternal life and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation and eternal punishment. 1 Corinthians
15:51-57; Revelation 20:11-15
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and that all true believers are
members of His body, the church. 1 Corinthians 12:12, 27; Ephesians 1:22-23
We believe that the ministry of evangelism (sharing and proclaiming the message of salvation
only possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ) and discipleship (helping followers of Christ
grow up into maturity in Christ) is a responsibility of all followers of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:1820; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:9-15; 1 Peter 3:15
We believe God’s plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage,
that God created man and woman as unique biological persons made to complete each other.
God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family
and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively
the union of one genetic male and one genetic female. Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5-6; Mark 10:69; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9
We believe that we must dedicate ourselves to prayer, to the service of our Lord, to His authority
over our lives, and to the ministry of evangelism. Matthew 9:35-38, 22:37-39, and 28:18-20; Acts
1:8; Romans 10:9-15 and 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10; Colossians 2:6-10; 1 Peter 3:15
We believe that human life is sacred from conception to its natural end; and that we must have
concern for the physical and spiritual needs of our fellowmen. Psalm 139:13; Isaiah 49:1;
Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 22:37-39; Romans 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10
CHOICE’s Disciplinary Policy:

matter with the parent. Mentor will provide documentation to a coordinator.

in writing by the mentor the same day of the offense. The child’s parent will be required to sit
with the child for the entirety of the class the following week.

premises at all times while their children are attending class. Parents are solely
responsible for getting their children to and from classes and while they are not in class.
It is of the utmost importance that children and adults are quiet and on their best behavior
at all times, as we are guests of FCCN and there are several other groups sharing the
facilities with us at the same time. CHOICE’s Fellowship Room (located right off the
gym) will be open for fellowship. Room 213/Young Children’s Play Area (located
upstairs) will be open for fellowship and young children’s play throughout the day. Please
note, children must remain in the room and cannot be running / playing in the hallways.
Room 214/Quiet Room (located upstairs) will be available and reserved for sleeping /
nursing babies, studying, testing, etc. Parents are not required to help specifically with
classes, but are asked to participate in a few light duties (such as lunchtime set-up/cleanup, sign-in table / door monitor, etc.).
C.H.O.I.C.E. will be offering a lunch / open gym time. Everyone is encouraged to stay
for this time. If participating, one needs to bring his own lunch with a CLEAR colored
drink. The dining room door will be opened at 12:20 for play to begin in the gym. It is up
to parents to supervise their own children at all times. It is VERY important that we
leave our eating area clean.
Due to multiple groups using the FCCN gym, children are not allowed to use the gym
outside of scheduled play time or scheduled class time. C.H.O.I.C.E. is only granted
permission to use the gym at these times.

What is cooperative learning and cooperative group work?
In cooperative learning, students work together in small groups on a structured
activity. They are individually accountable for their work, and the work of the group as
a whole is also assessed. Cooperative groups work face-to-face and learn to work as
a team. This is exactly what will be taking place in this hands-on learning class where
participants will be given a cooperative learning group task each week.
A few of the many benefits of cooperative learning and cooperative group work: gain
from each other's efforts –“your success benefits me and my success benefits you”,
recognize that all group members share a common fate – “we all sink or swim together here”, feel
proud and jointly celebrate when a group member is recognized for achievement, involves students
actively in the learning process. models appropriate student problem solving techniques, can facilitate
‘Deep Learning’, develops learning communities, increases students' self-esteem, reduces anxiety,
develops higher level thinking skills, increases student retention, enhances student satisfaction with
the learning experience, develops oral communication and social interaction skills, creates an
environment of active – involved - exploratory learning, uses a team approach to problem solving while
maintaining individual accountability, encourages student responsibility for learning, students explore
alternate problem solutions in a safe environment, stimulates critical thinking and helps students clarify
ideas through discussion and debate, enhances self-management skills, fosters and develops
interpersonal relationships, students practice modeling societal and work related roles, creates
environments where students can practice building leadership skills.
Please Note: Words of respect and encouragement will be expected by all

Introduction to Computer Programming will be a hands-on programming class perfect
for youth and adults alike. The participants will use Microsoft Small Basic as the
introductory programming language and there will be discussion about programming
concepts, examples, demonstrations, and practical application.
The course is designed to focus on the practical aspects of computer programming and
not on the theories, algorithm designs, and low-level architecture topics of computer
science. This class will endeavor to engender an appreciation for computers and
software development as well as expand the logic, reasoning, and problem solving skills
of the participants.
Some assignments will be given to work on in between C.H.O.I.C.E. meetings. The
purpose of these assignments it to help reinforce the topics presented. Like any new
skill it needs to be exercised to gain proficiency.
1 - Some laptop computers will be provided for use in the class for those that don’t have the option to
provide a computer of their own for class work. If there are more participants in need of a computer than
available computers some computer sharing may occur in class.
2 - Ideally, the class participants will be able to bring a computer to class to work on the programming that
will be discussed and taught each week. While having a laptop in class is not an absolute requirement
having access to a computer at home will be necessary for after class time work in order to gain the
experiences the class is intended to provide.

These classes will be geared toward younger children. The basics of public
speaking will be introduced as children become more comfortable in giving
impromptu speeches in front of the other children. By letting the children act as
the audience, the children will also understand the importance of proper
audience etiquette. As the children become more stage comfortable, they will
then be introduced to various types of speeches, and using an outline to write
and present a speech, usually from a given topic. Parents will be invited into the
classroom only twice. One invitation will be early in the spring session. The
other invitation will be near the end of the spring session. This allows parents to
see any improvement their child has made during the session. More
importantly, however, the children gain confidence in themselves by giving
speeches without parents near. However, parents are asked to help their child
write a speech at home, or help them assemble anything needed from home for
an assigned speech. Parents are also asked to listen to their children practice
giving their speeches at home. As an added bonus, participants will be
introduced to some debating in these classes.

encouraged to read aloud, it is not mandatory. Much discussion will take place assuring that each child is truly "reading" the material. Reading with expression,
enthusiasm, and fluency will also be emphasized. Words of encouragement will
be expected by all children. (Please note - Former children may take this
particular class again. New reading material will be used.)
