CORRECT POSITION ON OUR LETTER OF INTERIM AUTHORTTY
The Gretsa University fratemity is deeply perturbed by the sensational and malicious
media repofts appearing in the
Saturday Standard of I April 2017 and, today's Daily Nation newspapers to the
effect that the Commission for
University Education (CUE) had in a purported letter recommended to the Cabinet
Secretary for Education not to
renew our Letter of Interim Authority (LIA) pending the submission of a quality
audit report.
This is to advise the University Community that the University Management got
in touch with the outgoing CUE
CEo Prof' David Some to whom the purported letter recommending the non renewal
of our LIA was attributed and
he vehemently denied ever having written such a letter. Indeed in our
records, we have a letter Ref. CUE/g/53 Vol
6/2 dated 19 September 2016 in which ClrE informs the University that it will
advise the Cabinet Secretary ro
LIA which it positively confirms it did.
extend our
In the circumstances therefore, it is grossly unfair and inconsiderate for
the media to speculate that just because
some other universities requests for extension of LIA were processed
last week, then the pending ones are likely to
be declined' It is even worse when the media picks all manner of
alleged malpractices happening elsewhere and
tries to damp them on us.
overall, the recent cuE quality audit that was conducted in all universities
in Kenya highly commended our
University for adhering to set standards and guidelines. In particular, we
were in fact highly commended in the two
specific areas of instructional hours and examinations which the
media claims to have
been our weak points.,
The University Management has petitioned cUE to address the prevailing
apprehension caused by the unfortunate
media reports. We are also seeking audience with the relevant ministry
on the same.
In the meantime, all students and staff are urged to fully focus on the
work at hand and in particular adequately
prepare for the ongoing exams. It is also important for all
of us to reassure our parents/guardians of our continued
commitment to quality education.
