collection, reserve books, renew books and even give us suggestions for materials to add to our
collection.
When the weather outside is terrible, or if you just don’t feel like running down to the library to
renew your books, you can visit the Larder Lake Public Library’s Electronic Library on the Web!
It’s a fun, relaxing and user-friendly way of browsing our collection, and you can use it at any
time of the day, or night! No need to wait for business hours!

Click on the Online Resources link
Click on the Online Catalogue link. It will open up a new window.
You have arrived at the Larder Lake Public Library’s Electronic Library on the Web!
Let’s look for a book.
I’m going to look for an art book. I want one about painting.

Make sure that Keyword is selected.
Next, in the text area, type the word painting.
In the drop-down menu to the right, where is says words or phrase, scroll and select subject.
Make sure that Larder Lake is selected in the library box (if present).
5) Click the blue Search button and you get the results for all of our books with the subject
“painting”.

I want to take a look at #3 - Priscilla Hauser's decorative painting 1-2-3 .
On the left are two blue buttons. Click on the Details button.
Wow! Look at that! All of the information that one might need about the book shows up! This is
a lot better that those old cards in the card catalogue, don’t you think?

Take a few moments to look at the Item Information. It lists the publisher, the publication date,
the number of pages, and the ISBN number. This information is useful to make sure that it is the
book you are seeking, or perhaps you need the information to order the book from a bookstore for
your home library.
The item information also has up to 4 small buttons that you can click. Some books will have all
of the buttons if the information is available.

Click on the “man” button and you will be able to read the Author’s Biography.
Click on the “pencil” button and you will get the summary of the book
Click on the “paper” button and you will get the Table of Contents
Click on the “chain link” and you will be taken to a site with more information on the author
or book.

Holdings
Take a look under the buttons and you will see Holdings.
This gives you the “spine label” number, or Call Number, the number of copies our library owns,
if the book is fiction or non-fiction and where it is.
We can see that this book is On Shelf, so it is available for us to check out.
If the book were out, it would say in circulation.
Now, what to do next?
Well, you can choose to add the book to your Keep list, then print that out, and on your next visit
to the library, you can bring the list and pick up the books you want. Or you can reserve the book
and pick it up later on. I’m going to show you how to do these two things.

The Keep List
1) On the left in the information window, you will see a picture of the front cover of the book if
the information is available.
Click the Keep button
Notice that it has now been changed to a
Remove button?
The book is now in your Keep list. You can add or remove as many books as you wish to your
Keep List. The Keep list is automatically emptied after each session, so be sure to print it out, or
email it to yourself so you have a copy!
Let’s take a look at the Keep list.
At the top of the window you are in now, there two rows of buttons.
On the second row, click the blue button that says “Kept”

And this is the window that appears…
From here, you can print or email your records.
To remove a record, select the box beside the book(s) you want to remove and then click the blue
Remove checked titles button.
1) On the right side of the window, you can choose to sort by Author, Title, or Call Number
2) Keep library as Larder Lake
3) View records as All, Full or Brief.
Go ahead and play with the “sort by” and “view records” menus to see the different way that you
can set up your keep list.

Now, you can either Email it to yourself using the email box, or Print it using the Print Formatted
button.
Reserve a Book
Supposing the book is in circulation right now and you want to reserve it? You can do that
easily!
1) In the Item Information menu on the right is a Place Hold link, right under the Keep button.
Click on that link.
2) You are now taken to a new window.
The window shows the Title and Author of the book
1) User ID: Fill in the complete barcode number on the back of your library card
2) Alternate ID: leave blank
3) PIN: will be assigned by library and you can change it later
4) Pickup at: Larder Lake Public Library
5) Expiration Date: Select a date from the calendar icon on the right or leave blank for no
expiration date.
6) Click Place Hold button.
You then come to this window:

Click the OK button to return to the book that you just reserved.
Your librarian will receive a report stating that you have reserved that book and you will be
notified when the book is available for you.
Now, you can choose to go back to the Painting results by clicking on the blue Go Back button at
the top of the window, or perform a New Search, or check your account.
Let’s look at your account.
In the grey bar at the top, click My Account.
You are taken to a new window.
Here you can Review your account, change your PIN number, renew your books or if you move,
you can change your address.
Let’s Review My Account.
Click on the Review My Account link.
You will be prompted to log in. Fill in your User ID and PIN.
Click the Display User Information.
And you will be taken to your account.

Here, information such as books you have placed on hold (reserved), overdue books, fines due
and notes from the library can be found. You can even send a request to the library for a book
you think would be a good addition to the library collection.
Click on My Account link again you can go back and perform other tasks that you might wish to
do. You will be prompted to login for each task.
Now, this is just a brief tutorial on using the Larder Lake Public Library Online Catalogue.
Click the buttons and look around. You won’t hurt anything. If you need more information,
click on the Help button on each window. Help is our friend! If you get really stuck, drop into
the library during business hours and ask one of the librarians for a demonstration. They are
happy to help you and have an opportunity to show off their online collection!
