Updated: November 2011 www.ca.uky.edu/SNARL By The Numbers Whether you are comfortable using the web or you have not had the chance to explore it very much, finding your way around a data website can still be confusing at first. This issue of “Getting Started...” is designed to help you find economic data at the Bureau of Economic Analysis (http://www.bea.gov/). County economic data are available under the category ”Regional Economic Accounts Data” through the program called “State and Local Area Personal Income.” The Bureau of Economic Analysis also has a program that turns the numbers into narratives with their program called “Bearfacts” (http://www.bea.gov/regional/bearfacts/). “Getting Started…” is a series of graphical website instructions designed to help in finding and using data from the internet. Select a year (I selected “All Years”) 3. Click “Next Step” 7 Finding Economic Data Online at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) Here are your data To see data for all counties in Kentucky for a particular item, click on the “Line Code” next to it. (I’ll click on the code next to “Total Employment”) 8 Finding Economic Data Online at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) A new screen appears with data for the state and every county for the item you selected. (I clicked on the line code next to “Total Employment”) There are a lot of different options available. Click on “OPTIONS” to change the year or county.
