McConnell Transport Ltd. of Jacksonville, NB, a frozen and refrigerated food transportation
company, recognizes the value of loyalty and determination to accomplish a goal. Recently, a
Service Awards Gala evening was hosted by McConnell Transport at the Best Western Hotel
and Conference Centre in Woodstock, NB.
This well-attended gala honoured long-service to McConnell Transport Ltd. by Alta
DeMerchant of Elmwood, NB; John Bruce of Charlottetown, PE and Lisa White of Woodstock,
NB. This annual event is an opportunity to highlight the contributions each has made to the
company and to their departments. A delightful evening of friendship, food and reminiscing
was followed with an entertaining performance by Remi – a World of Magic.

Be Wise with Refreshments
Another big temptation for truck drivers is to snack while driving or
load up on tea, coffee or high-sugar sodas to stay alert. If you’re prone
to any of these habits, switch to refreshing yourself with more healthy
options.
Replace chips or chocolate bars with nuts, fruit, raisins or low-calorie,
low-sugar cereal bars.
And try to stay hydrated with a simple bottle of water by your side.
Almost all vehicles on the road today run on fossil fuels. Internal combustion engines are not
very efficient in converting the chemical energy in the fuel to mechanical energy at the wheels.
As a result, a lot of energy is lost in the form of heat through the engine cooling system and
exhaust.
Maximizing the efficiency of your vehicle by using fuel-efficient driving techniques can help
minimize the amount of fuel you burn. By reducing the amount of fuel you burn, you also
reduce exhaust emissions that produce air pollution and GHGs.
DRIVING LEAN is about a driving style that can reduce the amount of fuel used so we can
lower GHG emissions.
DRIVING CLEAN is about what and where we drive and the decisions that will result in fewer
exhaust emissions.
Today’s vehicles are equipped with technologies that improve fuel efficiency and reduce
exhaust emissions but it’s the driver who decides whether the vehicle is run efficiently – or not
– by the way he/she drives.
Inefficient driving habits can eliminate many of the fuel and emission savings built into the
vehicle and paid for by you or your employer. In fact, testing shows that drivers who use
inefficient driving techniques use as much as 35 percent more fuel than drivers who use fuelefficient driving techniques over identical routes!

ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP
In order to apply you must be the child of a Parent or Guardian employed with McConnell
Transport. The management team will review all applications and announce the successful
recipients on or before June 1st. In order to receive the scholarship, the student must be in good
standing and enrolled in the second term of the post-secondary institution.
