 explain how environment affects people’s lives in Asia
 evaluate social, political, economic, and cultural contributions of different societies around the
world
 explain how culture traits spread from one country to another
 describe how traditions of the past live on in modern Asia
 compare ways in which various cultures and societies such as China, Germany, India, and Russia
organize government and how they function
 analyze information comparing natural resources to explain where and why people live
 describe how the traditions of the past live on in Asia
 analyze why people have adapted to living in the Arabian Peninsula
 identify and locate major physical features such as landforms and water bodies

Physical and Human Geography of Asia.

History Alive: Creating Annotated Relief Maps of
China (this will take approximately two days of
class to complete). Students will create
annotated relieve map of China to better
understand how geography affects human
settlement and culture in China. This works best
if used with poster board.
Culture Quilt. Instructions included. Will take 11/2 weeks to complete.

History Alive: Encountering Ancient Traditions in
Modern Chinese. Students will assume the roles
of travelers to learn about Chinese practices
used today that reflect ancient Chinese
traditions. This will take approximately 2 days to
complete
East Asia: Population Facts and Figures. Follow
instructions on handout (will need computer
access for lesson).
Exploring Eastern Asia—use with laminated
maps.
Japan reading sheet. Answer questions on
separate sheet of paper. Turn in when
complete.

History Alive: Designing Character Collages of
Buddha, Confucius, and Laozi. Students will be
introduced to the basic ideas of three belief
systems found in Asia. This will take
approximately 3-4 days to complete.
Creative Strategies: Culture Traits: The Caste
System in India. Students will simulate what the
caste system is.
History Alive: Land and Population: An Insight
into Effects of Geography on Japanese Culture.
Students will simulate how Japans’ population
density affects the way people live in Japan
compared to other countries. Chopstick activity

East. Students are introduced to cultural
similarities and differences found in the Middle

History Alive: Adapting to the Geography of the
Arabian Peninsula. Students explore how people
