Formative Assessment
The goal of the lesson plan guiding this assessment is for students to
understand and describe the basics of the ancient Incan empire; there is a strong
emphasis on Machu Picchu, and how the remains of the city affects what we know
and think about the Incas today. Thus, this formative assessment will cover the
basics of the Incan empire with a specific focus on Machu Picchu. It is designed for a
Spanish I and/or II classroom, so students should be in eighth, ninth, or tenth grade. The
TEKS for this assessment are: §114.22. Levels I and II - Novice Progress Checkpoint
(One Credit Per Level); (2) Cultures. The student gains knowledge and understanding of
other cultures. The student is expected to: (B) demonstrate an understanding of the
products (what people create) and how they are related to the perspectives (how people
perceive things) of the cultures studied.
