This week’s Learning Log: This week in Maths we will be focusing our learning on our 2,3,4 and 5 multiplication facts. In English we are going to get in touch with our senses and our vocabulary bank when reading, writing and performing free verse poetry. We will be writing free verse poems relating to our Topic for our Big Write on Friday May 6th. As our topic is Ancient China focusing on farming and settlements. We will be looking at key symbols in ancient China (such as dragons) their importance and their meaning. In Science for this term, we will be learning about nutrition! This week we will be looking at sorting food into food groups and understanding how they are needed for our growth, active life and for keeping healthy. English This week we will continue reading all sorts of different free verse poems, and really focus on the different descriptive language used. We will also continue building up our vocabulary with new and interesting words to describe objects, settings and experiences. We will practice forming our own free verse poems with hopes of adding actions when performing them in front of each other. You could: With your child, practice their spelling words Pick an object or experience – then help develop a word bank of different ways to explain that object or experience. (feeling?) Begin to form a list of descriptive words under each. Dictate (say out loud) a sentence that needs punctuation (such as: inverted commas or question marks). Have your child write down the sentence using the proper grammar and punctuation. Maths This week in Maths we will be looking at how to use our 2,3,4 and 5 multiplication facts in a variety of ways! We will be practicing the inverse operation (division) and be using height and weight as units of measurement. Later on in the week we will practice multiplying 2,3,4, 5 and 8 by Next Week Beginning: 01/05/17 Year 3 Homework Due every Wednesday. Homework Club is available every Tues and Wed lunchtime for children needing help or extra time. Use a thesaurus to find alternative words for your list of descriptive words. Year 3 P.E- What is needed? Tuesday Mornings: Outdoor P.E clothes (tshirt, long sleeve shirt, bottoms, socks + trainers) multiples of 10 and a variety of other 2-digit numbers. You could: Keep practicing your times tables up to 12! (especially 6,7 and 8) Practice spelling numbers in words Practice counting in 10’s. Chat about what is different or similar to multiplying by 1 digit numbers and multiples of 10. e.g. 3 x 4 = 12 3 x 40 =120 Take turns forming word problems using Try baking something sweet or go shopping for bulk food and explore different units of measurement around height and weight. e.g. mm, cm, m, ml, liters, grams, kilograms
