Magellan's Community Sharing
Sessions Begin Wednesday, June 13
Beginning this Wednesday, June 13, Magellan Health
Services of Arizona will host a series of community
sharing sessions, five total, to gather input and
feedback from service recipients, family members and
caregivers, advocates, and community members around
shaping the continued evolution of central Arizona's
behavioral health system of care. We need to hear from
those you serve--about their journey and about how we
can make the path to recovery better for everyone. The
forums will take place June 13, 14, 15, 19 and 20. See
the side bar for forum details and dates.

June Cultural Competency Brown
Bag focuses on Asian Americans and
Pacific Islanders community
Mental illness affects people of all races, ages,
ethnicities and cultures. No one is immune to the affects
of mental illness. According to National Alliance on
Mental Illness, "Mental illness is an alarming problem in
many Asian communities: It is not always recognized
and treatment is not always sought. Many Asian
Americans experienced severe psychological trauma
before emigrating to the United States or during the
process of fleeing their homes. In addition, social
anxiety, social phobias, depression and trauma-related
disorders occur at high rates within the Asian American
community."
To address this issue, Magellan's Cultural Department
will host a multicultural brown bag presentation titled,
"The Valley of the Sun Asian Community and Mental
Health: A Community in Action" on Wednesday, June
27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Turquoise Training
Room (located at 4801 East Washington Street in
