NEWS
During
March
the
kindergarten class celebrated
books by Dr. Seuss. Twelve
books were read with activities
done for each. Some of the
activities were eating green eggs
and ham (which everyone loved!),
making "Whos", and making new
animals for the egg that Horton
hatched. They voted on their
favorite Dr. Seuss book. The 500
Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins
was chosen as the favorite book.
For this book the students made
hats and decorated them with
beads and feathers.

the Ness City Elementary students
earned 1302.8 Accelerated Reader

been doing such a great job of
reading that our gumball machine
is almost full!!
We would like to congratulate
the following students for being
the top readers in their class. 1st

SPANISH TRIP
Approximately
9:45
on
Thursday, February 19, twentyeight hungry and excited Spanish
students from all three levels
boarded a bus bound for Great
Bend. Their destination was
Playa Azul, an authentic Mexican
restaurant. There they met with
twenty-seven of their fellow
Spanish students who participate
in Ness City's Spanish classes via
the ITV system. Also there were
the five girls taking Spanish II
with us from LaCrosse. Students
were to meet their fellow
classmates in person and do a
little visiting. However, minds
were not on visiting with
classmates for the camareros
(waiters) were descending upon
them and students knew that these
people had been instructed ahead
of time to use no English and
some students found this to be
somewhat intimidating. Would
he actually receive what he
ordered? The air was full of
requests such as enchiladas con
pollo, tacos con hamburguesa, te
frío, and chimichangas sin salso
pero con queso, por favor.
However, probably the most
requested item on the menu was
the all-time favorite -- fried ice
cream.
Our students really
appreciate this popular Hispanic
dessert. Soon the time was over,
and the students boarded their
buses bound for their respective
schools,
most
of
them
complaining of having eaten too
much. We greatly appreciate the
school administrators and Playa
Azul management for offering us
this opportunity to experience a
little slice of Hispanic culture.

FAMILY FUN
NIGHT
Friday March 12 was
a night of food, fun, and
games for Ness City
children and their parents.
The night started with a
soup supper provided by
parents of the FCCLA
members
that
will
be
accompanying Mrs. Schaub to the
2009 State Leadership Showcase.
Proceeds from the supper will
help pay for the trip to Wichita.
Special thanks goes to Diane Bell,
Darla Lovelady, Kim Smith,
The Foos sisters try their hand at cup stacking.
Tracy Stoecklein, and Marilyn
Young for supplying soup and
serving the meal. Thanks, also
goes to April Yakish, Christy Seib
and Dana Stenzel who provided
food but were unable to attend.
The night continued with
games run by high school students
consisting of both FACS students
and
FCCL
A members. Prizes were awarded
throughout the evening for all
games. Some highlights of the
night were: the Jail, with the
assistance of Brian Whipple and
Jared Walker who issued tickets
and monitored the jail cell; the
Cake Walk featuring cakes that
were made by the FACS classes;
free throw attempts, and a
swinging tire football target.
Other games included target
activities with footballs, mini
basketball goals, golf clubs,
hopscotch, ring tosses, a
duck pond, etc.
The FACS classes
worked hard preparing
games and prizes for the
event. Both FACS students
and FCCLA members
participated in running
events during the evening,
which was a great success.
Special thanks for the game
activities go to Brian
Whipple, and Jared Walker for
running the jail, Dennis Gallagher
for hanging the swinging tire,
Joby Henning who donated many
games for the Fun Night activity,
and USD 303 for allowing Family
Fun Night. Thanks to all who
attended and we hope to see you
at next year's Family Fun night!
