Announcement and Training Deck

Introducing…
The Grounds to Grow On™ program
The Grounds to Grow On™ program converts brewed
K-Cup® packs into useable alternatives.
While we continue to research and develop other earthfriendly packaging solutions for our K-Cup® pack, our
recovery program provides an alternative method of
disposal, outside of the landfill.
We think a second life spent enriching soil and creating
energy sounds like a second life worth living. So say
goodbye to your brewed K-Cup® pack. We’ll make sure
its next journey is a good one.

Where We’ve Been

Our Pilot Programs
In 2010, we launched a small pilot program, with select distributors, to
recover brewed K-Cup® packs in offices. Our program was a success; it
provided tools for Keurig Authorized Distributors to offer an alternative
disposal solution for brewed packs – from there the Grounds to Grow On™
program was born.
In 2011, we expanded the Grounds to Grow On™ program to include
roughly half of all our workplace customers in the United States. The
program continued to be a success, and led us to where we are today; a
program that has expanded nationally to the 48 contiguous states.

Our Approach to Disposal
The recovered K-Cup® packs are sent to our disposal partner, g2
revolution, where they are separated into two parts: the grounds &
everything else.
The grounds are turned into compost and the remaining components
are sent to an Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility, owned by Covanta,
where they are converted into energy.

Our Recovery Bins
In an effort to reduce our overall carbon footprint, recovery
bins are made from 75% recycled content, reused
approximately 15 times, and shipped via the UPS Carbon
Neutral Shipping program.
Each bin includes:
• Pre-affixed UPS return label
• Pre-affixed bag and zip tie seal for brewed pack collection
• 2-way shipping; from us to you and back again
Please note:
Due to organic waste, each bin should be
replaced at least every 2 weeks.
